  • Why not 5 stars?...

The most glaring issue with this release versus prior Feral Interactive Total War ports; is the terrible custom battles functions. In previous total war games, you could create a max stack army, and apply whatever ranks you desire. Now, you are hamstrung with a measly 14000 gold to build an army in Custom Battles. For perspective, Medieval 2 allowed you to set a max budget of 100,000 gold for custom battles. Now, the only way to have a full battle with decent ranks is in the campaign. Though this isn't necessarily Feral's doing, it's a serious downgrade compared to the previous titles in terms of replay ability. The second issue, that I wish to be paid the least attention of the two issues in this review, is the broken replay mechanic. In previous Total war's you could fast forward to skip the setup time during recorded battles. Now when you try to change the time in replays, it only plays at the speed of which you originally played the game. This means you must sit through the entire preparation phase in the replay; and the replay only moves as fast as the original battle regardless of what buttons you push. This is a HORRIBLE experience for recording and spectating purposes. Please fix these, and you'll have your 5 stars. This is supposed to be an upgrade to prior Total Wars, not a downgrade. I expected this game to hold up the weight of its paywall, but this is honestly a deal breaker for me. I'd rather keep my storage for Rome Total War and Barbarian Invasion...

I wish the shell feature was more like previous titles for better manipulation of the game like people with PC who can download mods.

The game is phenomenal in terms of a total war game on mobile, loved medieval when it came to mobile and this game seemed like a must buy since the last one was alright in performance and really good port, loved the whole land battles but navel gameplay was such a pain for me to just drag and click and hope you had enough ships. Now onto the one of the points that I love this game for is obviously the whole gunpowder style warfare, I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I love it for historical value and world events happening at the time. Another point is navel combat, just like my first sentence sad, medieval to me suffered from no gameplay with the navel units, this game gives me that sense of massive navel combat that you have to slow down the speed for otherwise you’ll lose because a sloop was able to just take your sails out, rockets were ignored, and wrong ammunition was used. Currently this game is unplayable and NOT because “oh it’s too hard!”. But rather right now as of 12/09/24 for me I haven’t been able to play my saved game file and I’ve already tried to make a new campaign and same result being it crashes, hope this issue gets worked on because I love the total war series and am this close to finishing my first game in long term
