Description

Keep your mind sharp with word and logic puzzles from New York Times Games. Free to download, the app offers new puzzles daily for every skill level. App Features and Games: NEW: STRANDS Our latest game lets you find hidden words and uncover the day’s theme. It’s the word search you know, with a twist. WORDLE Play the original Wordle — created by Josh Wardle — in our app. Guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries or less, and analyze your guesses with WordleBot. SPELLING BEE Is scrambling your strong suit? Play the daily Spelling Bee and see how many words you can make with 7 letters. THE CROSSWORD Subscribers can play the same daily puzzle that’s printed in The New York Times, in our app. Crosswords increase in difficulty throughout the week. CONNECTIONS Group words with a common thread. See if you can do it with four mistakes or fewer. SUDOKU Looking for a numbers game, minus the math? Play Sudoku and fill each 3x3 set of boxes with numbers 1 to 9. Play a new puzzle every day in easy, medium or hard mode. THE MINI CROSSWORD The Mini is all the fun of The Crossword, but you can solve it in seconds. These word puzzles don’t increase in difficulty throughout the week and feature simpler clues. TILES Unwind while you match elements in the day’s pattern — the key is to make consecutive matches. LETTER BOXED Create words using letters around the square. Letter Boxed is another fun way to test your word-making skills. STATS Track your progress for The Crossword, Wordle and Spelling Bee. For The Crossword, monitor your average solve times, see how many puzzles you can solve in a row, and more. Plus follow your streak on Wordle, and track how often you reach each level in Spelling Bee. LEADERBOARDS Start a friendly competition with The Mini leaderboards. Add up to 25 friends to see who can solve today’s Mini puzzle the fastest. PUZZLE ARCHIVE Subscribers can now solve over 10,000 past puzzles from Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee and The Crossword. Im retired and NYT games are on my agenda every day. Best set of games with extras i know about. They give serious attention to developing the capabilities of this feature. (Don’t care for their Sudoku though- like Genina much better!) Their games offer interest day after day. We owe Will Shortz a debt of gratitude—if there were a Noble (!) prize for puzzles i would nominate him. ( i wish him well—be sure to read his article about recovering from a stroke. Lots of games these days — NYT scored a coup by buying Wordle and buying/ developing Wordlebot— be sure to check that out! I believe Shortz was the developer of Spelling Bee, which is a real winner. I don’t use the hints but they would add a lot of fun for many. Grandchildren, now 9 and 11, have enjoyed playing for years. First day the older one played he immediately found “admin” that i had missed. He is named Victor and the first day i let him start one that was one of the words. Love the capabilities to work past puzzles, keep and share stats—recently added to Combination- which is a great game for exercising lateral thinking muscles! Good notes on crosswords, including info on and comments by constructors. Good grading by difficulty. From other sources I particularly like mathler, crosswordle and octordle rescue (and other variants, like quordle— but i find “rescue Octordle” most challenging ergo fun. )

  • Fun, but patronizing

I love all the games, but the messages when you lose are patronizing. “Good attempt today” when you lose Connections can feel especially insulting if you’re not good at it. Having a more objective message (e.g “2 connections, 4 misses”) would feel better, even if it were a toggle or something optional. Having the ability to turn off loss messages would also be okay.
  • Love these games.

Please show wordie frequency distribution for prior words that people who got it in 2,3,4 etc used. Ie, what words did they put for 1,2,3
  • Recent bugs and loading issues

Have used this app for awhile now but recently it seems as if there are a lot of bugs. I’m having to exit out of the game and reload it to try and play a game and the same error or loading of webpage keeps popping up. You can’t back out of webpage, you’re forced to back out again and restart. There are also several issues loading games (current or past), prolonged wait times whether you are on WiFi or cellular. It takes more time to load a game than it does to play it. I hope this bug fixes are addressed soon. Otherwise I don’t have any complaints. I love the variety of games, spelling bee is a favorite.
  • Like the games, dislike the weird time zone/day of the week issue

My least favorite thing about this app is that it updates to the next day so early for those of us on the west coast. It’s 5:47pm on a Saturday and the mini-crossword is already Sunday’s. Why? Is this app on GMT? I could understand it being ET being New York and all but why is it already Sunday in NYT world? It’s not even midnight in New York. I know it’s random and not at all an actual issue but I wish that it would rollover at midnight so that I actually had the day to play the games instead of using up my one play for the next day and losing my streak on wordle.
  • Why does the mini reset before midnight?!?!

I love to play the games almost every day. Usually I play in the morning but I hate when I play in the evening and at 7 pm the mini is already changed to the next days. Why can’t it reset when every other game resets?!! Makes no sense that this one game resets at a different time

This app randomly stops updating, so you’re on the wrong day. You log out log in. That doesn’t fix it. Now you get an error message. You uninstall and reinstall. Same error message. You reach out to technical support, but they never solve the issue. I can log into the news app just fine. This app is just constant problems. It’s the worst app on my phone and a waste of $4 a month. I hate it.
