Reviews

  • Love the content - don’t love the increasing ads

The writers and podcasters are excellent. I appreciate the quality of the content and simplicity of the app. However, more and more ads are being built into the experience including into the podcasts. And the ads are repetitive and not relevant. I expect a cleaner experience with limited ads when I am paying for access. The same podcasts are typically available without a subscription with the same ads.
  • Ads now in podcasts

They put ads in the podcasts. Might as well just listen on Spotify. Canceling subscription

Leaving a poor review for introducing ads to the podcasts in the app.
  • Renewals

The Athletic doesn’t alert you that you will automatically be renewed. If you don’t cancel by the anniversary date you are on the hook for the entire next year. No notice, no pro-ration. Pretty sneaky way to continue subscriptions. Sign of desperation to keep the numbers up so the Times doesn’t close this . I never refer to the Athletic and now I’m stuck for another year. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
  • Paid Subscriptions Cone With Ads Now?

As of this morning my podcast episodes come with ads even though I’m a paying subscriber. Might as well just drop my subscription and go listen on Spotify.
  • Terrible

I’ve been charged for over a year on an account that isn’t even active, and every time I try to sign up on my ACTUAL ACCOUNT, the app crashes. So terrible
  • Podcast section doesn’t even work

Do not subscribe to the athletic. the podcast section of the app does not currently work and even when it did it was constantly buggy. Not to mention they are now putting ads in paid subscribers podcasts. It actually takes MORE work for them to do that. Scummy company.
  • 30 min podcast has 15 mins of ads

Increasingly buggy by the day. New York Times ruining one of the few good things it does
  • Podcast Problems?

    2
    By Bredius
At the time of this writing, the podcasts available through the app are displaying wrong episode lengths (9hrs instead of 50 min). Please fix! (Also, the pods have the commercials in them, which hasn’t been the case since I have had a subscription. (Also, extremely hard to report bugs. The options to submit reports are related to login and billing questions).
  • Stupid autoplay

Was anyone actually asking to have video autoplay as they try to scroll down the articles? If I want to watch video I can hit the play button, I don’t need it shoved down my throat. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, dummies.
