I love the NYT content. But why does the audio app allow me to download stories but not allow me to open the app when I’m offline? Please fix.

As a New York Times subscriber, why am I still hearing ads on the podcasts even through New York Times audio?
  • Confusing and virtually unusable

I’ve just spent a half hour trying to figure this app out. I want to listen to the new series on Keiko the whale. This American Life says it’s the latest offering from Serial. Um, no. Serial’s latest season is something else entirely. So, in the Discover tab, I search for Keiko (nothing), whale (many whale shows, no Keiko), etc. Is search that bad or…? Next, I try going to My Audio, where the helpful prompt says I can “Build my queue.” Cool. How? There is no + to add new items, no search, can’t click through the helpful text. Literally nothing that lets me build a queue. No idea how this friggin app is supposed to work. Can’t find anything about USING it online, just blather about downloading it (thanks, that works just like every other iPhone app). Guess I’ll give up on this piece of junk and wait until it’s released to Overcast (a fantastic podcast app!! Please please go there for some pointers!!)

Love the audio as at 80, with Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy plus old lady eyes at 80.5 years n reading is becoming challenging. I get the newspaper c weekend deliverer, but print keeps shrinking and reading with a magnifying glass is not fun. I now do audio or digital reading which can be enlarged on my computer. However the full newspaper seems unavailable if not getting print edition. Friends say that, too. Will you increase digital and audio coverage c as the population ages? Keep improving!

Kind of like apple, it’s simple and slick and most importantly it just works. Love getting the other mags and sports stuff I wasn’t getting in the regular podcast routine. And now the bonus content.
  • With a lot of room for improvement

I love the content. I am unable to fast forward easily as I can with other apps. I would love to listen the breaking news as I sometimes can on the NYT app.

It’s a pretty app and I’m glad they seem to be considering pulling back a bit from all the AI story reading. That said: still a ton of awful AI reading of stories, and so much un-skippable advertising for a paid service.

Love love love NYT content. But if we’re paying for audio, why are we still getting ads?
