The app is good overall, but towards the end of the workout the app always seems to crash or randomly end the workout.. it used to only happen occasionally, but now it seems to be happening more and more often. Extremely annoying when I’m busting my butt to complete these difficult workouts then I don’t get to complete the workout or lose the workout.. If not for those couple of issues this app would have a 5 star review

The following points are reasons for the 1 star - 1. Cannot customize the data screens. 2. Data does not include cycling dynamics. 3. ERG mode does not work with movies (or routes). So if you are only training in ERG mode all the time, the subscription is not needed. 4. Lack of virtual shifting. 5. Family subscription is not supported. If you have more than one household individual using the trainer at home, you’ll need separate subscription for everyone. 6. The activities are exported to Garmin Connect without any lap information, such as warmup, intervals or cool down. It only displays one set of the workout. 7. Lack of an Apple TV app. This app only supports Airplay which means the long rides will drain the phone battery and keep your phone occupied with the Tacx activity. 8. In-frequent app updates. 9. Lack of any news on future releases. I train for Ironman distance triathlons and here’s my take on the Garmin Tacx Training App. The app is stable and has a simple UI. When doing structured workouts, the app shows the duration of the workout and the average trend line for 4 metrics - pace, power, cadence and hear rate. The app also shows the distance traveled. It seems that the Tacx team has lost motivation to compete and succeed with other apps. I’d strongly consider subscribing if the app supports routes in ERG mode, family subscriptions and an Apple TV app with virtual shifting. Frequent updates to enhance the app experience holds high importance to me.

I watch it on TV thru my phone’s screen mirroring, both movies and work outs. It makes a ride more of an adventure and realistic with the feel of gravel or cobble when encountered. I use Connect a lot so Garmin has built a lot of good will with me. For that I choose their products over others.
  • Poor integration

The new app doesn’t integrate well with connect. Constantly switching between the two. Want to create a workout? Go to connect. Want to do the workout? Go to Tacx, wait for it to sync.

Just acquired this Tacx bike and find the app has severe problems. It locks up all the time, doesn’t record your progress so you have to start the course over. Quite disappointing, actually. When is Garmin going to update this app and make it actually useful and do what they’re selling it as. good idea just not well implemented.
