Description

When paired with a compatible Garmin Varia device¹, the Varia app has the tools you need to ride with confidence. Using the Varia app, you can: • Be alerted right on your phone when approaching vehicles are within 140 meters behind your bicycle. • View color-coded alerts based on surrounding traffic: Green means you’re all clear, yellow means a vehicle is approaching, and red means a vehicle is coming at you quickly and you should take caution. • Receive tone and vibration alerts for approaching vehicles even when you’re not looking at your phone. With a compatible Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Camera, you can: • Set the camera in the best position for capturing videos and photos. • Record videos or take photos while riding with a simple button press on your phone. • Automatically record videos of incidents and save the video footage with the Incident Recording feature. By adding the Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light, you can: • Configure and edit light mode configurations for your tail light. Easy to Use Pairing your Garmin Varia device with the app is quick and easy. Once you set it up, the Varia app will automatically recognize your device. Even if you already have a Varia device paired with a compatible Garmin device or head unit, the Varia app provides additional awareness and peace of mind while riding. ¹ Compatible devices are the Varia RVR315 Rearview Radar, Varia RTL515 Radar Tail Light, Varia RCT715 Rearview Radar Camera and Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light.

Great app but only on radar light on it at a time. I have several radar lights

Incredible hardware, but for $400 for a product there are terrible connection issues. There has to be a better way to view footage. Takes hours to comb through footage and that's only when it's connected. Good luck.
  • Essential for long rides with headphones

This app really expands the use of a radar to include listening to music on long rides. It also is perfect for winter when your ears are are covered and you can supplement the head-end unit’s beeps. One thing to make it perfect would be to enable multiple radar units to be connected. I have a second radar unit connected to my commuter e-bike and have to disconnect and re-pair when switching from commutes to fitness rides. Overall, it makes the radar an even more essential piece of kit.
  • Excellent Addition.

I am biased as I have been using Garmins since the 1990s. This Varia App is a great addition to transmit a better sound than from the Edge computer on my handlebars. Thank you.

A majority of my bike rides, in rural southeast Georgia, are on 2-lane winding country roads. Many vehicles exceed the speed limit and drivers are not accustomed to encountering cyclists. I was always on high alert while riding being vigilant to vehicular traffic. I purchased a Garmin Varia radar and am thrilled with the technology. Additionally, my anxiety level about vehicular traffic has diminished considerably thanks to the Varia radar. As a cyclist, I won’t leave home without it.
  • Great product, garbage app.

Slow and buggy, won’t connect to its own WiFi. Should be able to connect through the Garmin app rather than Varia. Settings don’t seem to stick.

Have one for my bike and my wife’s bike. The Varia gives us both mor confidence when riding and it brings our safety to the forefront. The app works well and the unit does as well. It holds a good charge and I love how it begins flashing when a car is approaching. It gives great visibility to the approaching cars.
  • Want to like it. Reminds me why I ditched Garmin

I’ve only had it for one day- the 715. According to everything I can read I have it all set up normally- my Wahoo Bolt connects to it just fine, but doesn’t show the radar LEDs anywhere. The radar alerts are ‘on’ in the settings. Something to figure out. Setting up this app, however, seems even worse. The connection to the thing’s wifi to view videos is horrible, even when the phone is touching the device. I couldn’t get anything to play, just loads until it crashes. Not convinced it actually recorded anything because I have 50 2-second videos from a 1 hr ride (and I can’t view any of them). Keeps making an alert noise on my phone when it’s disconnected or connected, which wouldn’t be annoying if it were going on/off incessantly. Fix your software.
