  • Unreliable on safari

The Chrome version of 1Password works fairly well, but I have daily issues with 1Password in Safari. This usually manifests itself as a disconnection from the desktop app, where you try to fill a user/password, Password asks you to unlock, and then the Safari extension hangs. Sometimes it will say that it needs to reload to reconnect. At this point it does seem like it reconnects to the Password desktop app, but the dropdown in user/ password fields won't show without restarting Safari. But there are other annoying persistent bugs as well. Any kind of form autocomplete will battle it out with 1Password. So if the extension thinks that it should try to populate an address field that wants to autocomplete your address (i.e. you start typing your address and it uses Google to try to autocomplete for you), then the Password drop-downs will compete for this spot. That's annoying. The most annoying one, though, is competition with Safari's built-in SMS/email OTP autocomplete or just generic email fields. I want to retain the option in Safari to generate a unique email address for a site, so I need that function enabled, but 1Password steps on the Safari drop-downs every time. Password team, please, fix this extension. I love 1Password. When I spun up a company, l chose 1Password for our org of 30 people. You can do better. This is a review posted a year ago, and all still holds true. On Chrome the extension just works but in Safari it’s complete garbage.

Breaks every time it auto-updates (every couple of days) and requires restarting the browser.
  • Barely functional, broke my workflow

I have used 1PW for well over a decade now. At every point, it was seamlessly integrated into my workflow. Now? No. My old, standalone PW now has been replaced with my harder-to-enter account password. The Safari extension does not work, at all, either. What used to be a muscle memory driven, quick process to retrieve and/or enter passwords is now an exercise in frustration and my workflow is now laborious. In short, I hate this version.
  • Why bother

I’m not sure why this needs to exist. It barely works. It’s always logged out despite my 1password app being fully unlocked. Getting it working requires 5-10 minutes messing around every time I try to use it. It would get 5/5 star if a) it was always logged in if 1password is logged in and b) if it would reliably work to do anything useful, like fill passwords. Instead I just use the app, which doesn’t work with passkeys. I’ve gone as far as try to completely disable passkeys across the services I use but the first one I tried (Google) does not make that easy if it’s possible at all. Passkeys aren’t going away apparently. If password doesn’t figure something out they’re going to start losing customers, why am I paying for something that doesn’t work as well as a free alternative

This is unusable on Safari 17 on Sonoma. Consistenly will not unlock. Have to go to the 1password desktop app instead. I don't know if it's the above combination of software versions or the fact that I'm on an Apple Silicon mac, but rest assured this does not work as delivered. UPDATE 3/19/2025: Still broken on Safari. Completely unreliable.

As a family we are users of 1password for many years. I think I have version 3 to start with. Unfortunately it seems the installation on a Mac and the integration with safari has 1password and MacOS fighting with each other. The app does not correctly install (tried several times from scratch, on the MacBook Pro M1, unfortunately no success. I can log into the app, see my passwords but the link to the password autofill on the MaxOS doesn’t happen. Getting in contact with support is a nightmare. Redirected to the 24/7 via the BOT but that only generates standard responses that have all been tried. I guess all the staff is let go.All in all disappointed and I guess we will need to migrate to the apple password app.

GUI issues, speed issues, it is a mess.
  • Flaky

I miss the days of version 7. Version 8 has been consistently flaky, the biggest challenge of which has been the Safari browser plugin. It just doesn’t work a lot of the time. Uninstalling it and reinstalling it tends to fix it, but in 2025, this lack of reliability is tiring.
  • Fix IT!

I recently switched to Safari because I no longer support Google. 1Password works almost flawlessly on Chrome. Why is it so glitchy on Safari? I have to log in twice every time I need to activate the extension. FIX IT!!!
