While using the identify by sound feature, too many times I get results for birds that don’t even live on the North American continent, forget about in Massachusetts. I like the app. It’s a great idea, but unless I am willing to pay 💰for a subscription I don’t get accurate results for the sound identification feature. I used it to check if it would accurately identify a Red bellied Woodpecker, but the results were of a species of Toucan found in Columbia. This was after several attempts to identify a bird, but the result kept coming back, incorrectly, as a Common Nightingale, which is found in Europe, Asia Minor, the Middle East, and Central Asia…but Not in New England. It would be nice if we could set our location, for free, so that we could get accurate information.

I’m trying Picture Bird on a trial basis. Yesterday I hiked in the woods of some lowland mts about an hour outside Seattle. A bird was sound id’d by this app as a Louisiana Waterthrush. Of course there are rogue birds that pop up in strange places but the chances of a Louisiana Waterthrush showing up in our forests are LOW to NONE. I think it was misidentified — which is weird since the app knew my location, etc. I doubt I’m going to subscribe to the app after the trial if it gets a sound ID so grossly wrong. I do like the graphics etc.

It is not as accurate as I would like it to be. It detects bird calls that are not in the area where birds exist by geographical location
  • Beware- $40 a year app

Didn’t see how much this app was and it has a 7 day free trial then get hit with $39.99 a year. Wish it was more up front about the cost. Now I’m stuck with an app I won’t use much.

Not pleased! They charged me for a whole year subscription when I specifically wanted a monthly plan. I live I. Alaska and birds are scarce in the north for almost 6 months . This is not an honest outfit. I’d like my money back.
