Most current New Yorker subscribers have unlimited access to the app as part of their existing subscription. Subscribers with a print-only subscription may not have unlimited access. App subscribers have full access to the Web site, including the archive and most recent issue. Users who have trouble accessing stories can e-mail [email protected] for assistance. Non-subscribers may access the app by starting a free trial. A subscription costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 annually, and includes a 7-day free trial, after which it will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period and will state the cost of renewal. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. Subscriptions may be managed by the user, and auto-renewal may be turned off by updating the user’s App Store Subscription settings after purchase. Payment will be charged to iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Information about our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy can be found at http://www.condenast.com/privacy-policy.

Automated readers are dry, depressing and error-prone. Can’t even pronounce their regular feature titles correctly. Oh, and the app repeatedly asks for tracking permissions no matter how many times I decline. Absolute garbage app for a great magazine, getting a solid delete from me.
  • Won’t link to print subscription

I’m unable to link my print subscription by either subscription number or by name and address to which the print edition is sent.

I can sign in on my browser but not in the app on my phone. Frustrating. The subscription is too expensive not to work on my phone.
  • Love the magazine, used to love the audio version, but hate the transition to automated

I've read the print version for decades and loved getting the audio version (through various sources, including audible). I used to listen to all available articles while commuting. One of the best features (besides the excellent writing) was high/quality narration. It could even draw me into to stories that I didn't think I'd be interested in. Recently more and more of the articles are rest by automated voices and I can't stand it. I keep trying, but inevitably switch it off 5 minutes in because the sound is so annoying. Please bring back human narrators!!
  • Non-functional

This has to be one of the worst apps that I had the misfortune of using. The latest update erased all my previously downloaded issues without giving me the option to re-download them, essentially stealing my money. The tech support at TNY is completely useless. What a shame that such a fantastic publication got ruined by an inept IT department.
  • Drops your subscription

I prepaid a one-year digital subscription. Worked fine for about 6 months, now the app says it can’t find my subscription. Wants me to pay again. Very shady on the account setup side of things. No customer service.

Crappy, buggy app. Too many issues to list. They are clearly not investing in their digital experience to the detriment of their subscribers.
  • Impossible to Access or Cancel Subscription

*This one star rating is for the subscription service (or lack thereof)--not the publication itself which is exceptional. I love the New Yorker Magazine, however after repeated unsuccessful attempts to access my subscription information in order to find ANY info regarding: time before the next renewal, current subscription cost, how to cancel or change my subscription from digital to paper, etc....I have simply given up. All endeavors to access any control over my subscription while signed in were met with a non-functional page that just contains blank boxes with the words Subscription, Account Credentials, and Newsletters--clicking on any of these boxes on my ipad yields nothing. Furthermore, after signing out (which was recommended by another user) the next attempt to log back in (with my verified correct credentials) is met with an error message that says, "The e-mail address you entered is already registered for use with The New Yorker digital edition, newyorker.com, or another Conde Nast Web site. Please sign in below or reset your password. Please sign in to manage your New Yorker Subscription." What sense does that make?? In other words you are just sent into an endless cycle of trying to sign in, then being blocked from signing in whilst being informed that your sign in credentials are "already" correct...all with "Please sign in to manage your New Yorker Subscription" being held just out of reach like some sort of carrot! This is not the first time I've run into these 'technical difficulties' while attempting to access my subscription management--it is always difficult--almost as if it is INTENTIONAL?? Well, I've had it. No subscription is worth this type of torture. Sorry New Yorker Digital Subscription...I'm history. Please learn how to respect your loyal subscribers with a functioning website and app that allows us to have visibility and proper control over our subscriptions. I'll be gladly going back to the newsstand for my occasional, beloved paper copy of the New Yorker. Good bye and good riddance!

Nice app to read on though often receive an error when I come back to the app after a bit of time away. Really needs a dark mode.
  • AI Narration vs. Humans

I don’t care how convincing these reader bots are–there should be a strict limit to the share of articles narrated by AI. If they hired RFK Jr. to croak his way through every single piece, I’d view that as an improvement on the current ratio.
