HOW TO PLAY TICKET TO RIDE®: Players are dealt a number of tickets and must pick a certain number to keep (depending on the map). Players are also dealt four train cards of various colours. This number can also vary depending on the map you’re playing on, but don’t worry – the AI takes care of this! Each turn, players can draw two train cards from the face-up pile, draw two train cards from the face-down pile, draw another ticket to complete, or use their train cards to claim a route! A claimed route is shown by placing train pieces along the route. When a player has three or fewer train pieces left, the last round starts. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game is the winner! • Rubber Band Nightmare

My original bad review focused on the UI, which was improved a bit. The far more serious problem is the rubber banding Marmalade built into this version that completely eliminates strategy by controlling every supposedly random element of gameplay to force close finishes. From initial route availability (both players get two reasonably close routes of three that will add up to about the same points) to the colored train card draws (algorithm will deny useful cards to the player ahead until the lagging player catches up) this "game" is a managed experience designed to provide the illusion of competition. For casual players who want a blowout-proof entertainment that looks like TTR and bears some resemblance to playing a game it's probably not too bad. For experienced players who want the competitive thrill of risk-taking and adapting with real stakes, this is a travesty. I would pay money for an option to restore randomness.
  • Convinced “AI” players cheat

I’ve played 100’s of games against the AI players and I’m convinced of two things. The AI players have access to my tickets. In game after game an AI player will grab a route that I need when (1) it’s not part of one of their tickets, and (2) it wouldn’t be obvious in any way that I would need it later. The other suspicious behavior is you will see AI players routinely complete 9, 10, 11 tickets in a quick game. When you look at their tickets, each one of their tickets shares routes with other tickets. In short, perfect draws. One of the hardest things too do when programming games is to have different skill levels for computer components. Often there is one best move, so how do you make a computer player do the wrong thing? The easy solution is to take away chance (randomness) in places like the ticket draws in order to give the AI player the advantage. And to give the computer player access to info (like what tickets I have) that violate the game rules. If they dare, send me a copy of the source code and prove me wrong.
  • Fun family game, needs work on macOS

I have a lot of fun playing this game with my family. The macOS version needs work, though. As an example, the opening screen (asking for birthday) has no affordance to let you know it’s awaiting keyboard input for the year field. We’re limited on the number of devices we have to play as a family, and being able to use the computer so everyone can play is important.

Great game! Love that we can buy all the different versions. But as someone who is red green colorblind, it can be tough to tell which train is mine, especially when I am playing as a red or green color.

Fun but kicks me off during a game. Can be slow and buggy. Hope future updates help it run smoother. Can’t delete it now after I paid for it. Love the game regardless.
  • Horrible board design makes unplayable

I had an older version on my iPod that was before Worlds if Wonder sold the rights. I really enjoyed the old game, but wanted to try some knew apps so I had to pay to get this “again” from the new company. Some design person got a hold of this game and made it unplayable for two reason: 1) the map is way too “busy” and the placed trains are not distinct enough to look at the board and see what each opponent is up to, and 2) the map doesn’t even fully fit on an iPad and you have to manually move it to see the coasts! If you play this game for the strategy it is no longer fun with these unnecessary changes. If you’re 3 and just like doing chop-choo stuff maybe that’s the only demographic that might like these new changes.
  • Horrible New App

The old app was a million times better, especially the competition.
  • No Notifications

This game is fun but having no notifications sent when it’s your turn makes it almost unplayable. I can’t keep checking and opening my app just to find out it’s not my turn yet. This is a staple feature for any other asynchronous game. With this feature this game would be great. Without it, it’s frustrating. I can’t recommend to anyone until this is updated. Other than that great game.
