  • Thanks, I hate it

What an inanely programmed app. It’s clear someone had the bright idea to try and make the app feed and UI appear similar to social media platforms, and I cannot describe accurately how annoying that is. If I wanted to spend time scrolling through instagram I would do that. I’m using this app because the mobile website is so abysmal and rarely functions correctly (I can’t even access my tree most of the time) and I need to access my profile and information while away from home/desktop. It’s obviously not meant to be used to make any real adjustments to your records or trees, and seems like it’s more suitable for non serious users to share made up fantastical genealogies that oh so often include both monarchs and mythological beings, in the form of “stories”. Maybe if the random people being shared with me were even remotely connected to the “communities” that my profile connected to, it would be slightly less annoying, but it’s not, it’s just random unknown and unrelated individuals in your feed every other post. I really wish this company would actually fix their website and this app, they have the ability to do so considering how much they make annually off subscribers.

I usually do my research on my computer but I’ve been doing some on my phone when I don’t have my laptop, I do it in the app and I try to add people but the tree never refreshes so I’m just stuck. Very frustrating and annoying. Have had to delete and reinstall several times just to get my tree to update. Update: Also won’t let me share my tree. Hate the app. Please fix these bugs.

you cannot even add potential family members to your family tree without paying at LEAST 24.99 a month now. absolute trash and greed.
  • Great design, poor performance

Ancestry for iOS has a well-designed layout and a clean look, but is extremely buggy and unoptimized on both iPhone and iPad, particularly the latter when working with larger trees. The Tree section of the app glitches and lags around at all times when attempting to navigate around the tree. Extended branches (even one or two generations) will randomly close causing you to lose your place in the tree. Additionally, branches always close and revert to the default screen when switching back and forth between apps, making research outside of the app impossible. (I have the newest iOS and Ancestry app version and have tried reinstalling and re-logging in.)

A great resource to keep track of my family history, and to find information regarding official records. I have been enjoying this collection of data to build my family tree…

When I had a technical problem, what was listed didn’t help me . Hearing a voice to explain my situation I was empress by the courtesy and calmness of the voice. It’s amazing how fast the problem was resolved. They really stay on top of the problem solving. Everything was explained to me very well.
  • Ok but glitchy

The app has removed my mom’s side of the family with no way to recover it so now I have to recreate it. It also says I have new hints and when I click on the hint is says I’m caught up.

The Ancestry App and website is a terrific way to organize family information. Our family loves referring to it at random times to keep up-to-date with family order.
