I’ve run several marathons over the past 30 years and typically just run what I feel like doing. This time I wanted to actually “train”. Hal is the master and his app motivates me to run appropriately.

A friend of mine recommended this app to help prep me for my first marathon at 45!!! I am giving myself a year to train and so far I am seeing improvements one run at a time! The plan is easy to follow and very thorough in helping me to reach my goal!
  • Good but major flaw

I’ve only been using this app for a short time and I like it a lot. Unfortunately, you are not able to adjust your training schedule and that’s a dealbreaker for me. It’s completely unrealistic to expect someone to be able to adhere 100% to the training schedule with illness, injury, family commitments, work and other unexpected life events. I often have to adjust my training schedule to account for these things.
  • Great concept, seriously flawed execution

The metrics and app do not integrate with Apple Watch or Strava and lacks the metrics many runners want. The adaptive training plan is a great idea but this will be a usable app for many runners who rely on Apple, Garmin, and Strava for their training. This shouldn’t cost so much for the lack of such standard features. Also, why use Hal Higdon’s name (aka “Hal”) throughout this app? He’s a ripe-old 93 years, clearly not that involved in this app, and the allusion to the evil AI computer from the movie 2001 (aka, Hal) is unsettling.

  • Plan is good. App not so much

I used this app to train for my first marathon. I finished the marathon in my goal time, so the plan worked. However, the app does not work well for actually recording runs. It crashed or just quit on at least 1/2 the times I used it. Tech support said to not use other apps, because they might interfere. Really? How about fixing the app? I finally gave up and used MapMyRun to record the workouts and manually entered them in Run with Hal. You’re probably better off buying Hal’s books than using this app.

Was never a big fan of running but this app helps to keep you accountable and lays out the runs and type of run extremely well and detailed. Since using this app I’ve actually enjoyed running and I’ve already seen improvements within a 2 week period.

I so appreciate this app. It’s incredible. I’ve been struggling to manage my love for running with my newer appreciation for weight lifting & how to do both. With this app, I am running longer but I have less muscle fatigue because the pacing is moderate, so I am more consistently running (and getting better at it!) while still being able to do some weight lifting. It’s a total game changer.

It creates an amazing plan for free and is really easy to use. I spend too much time trying to motivate myself and create my own schedule. Run With Hal solves those problems!
