Description

Suicidal thoughts can seem like they will last forever – but these thoughts and feelings pass with time. This app is designed to support those dealing with suicidal thoughts and help prevent suicide. Having a plan in place that can help guide you through difficult moments can help you cope and keep you safe. A safety plan is designed so that you can start at the beginning and continue through the steps. You can customize your own warning signs that a crisis may be developing, coping strategies for dealing with suicidal urges, places for distraction, friends and family members you can reach out to, professionals you can call, methods of making your environment safe, and your own important reasons for living. If following your safety plan is not enough to stem a suicidal crisis, then this app also contains an easy-to-access list of emergency resources so that help is just a tap away. For long-term recovery, we provide a thorough guide to dealing with suicidal thoughts. This application is open source and we are looking for contributors! https://github.com/suicidesafetyplan/safetyplan-ios/

Thank you for this app! It’s great that people can easily forward their Safety Plan to others on their team! One typo I notice under the “warning signs” -it should be “or behaviors” not “of behaviors”. Also, I would recommend adding the new 988 information!

It’s got all the traditional steps for a safety plan and it’s nice to have that in a siloed place but it cut me off at 9 coping skills and I’m betting the other steps have limits too… shouldn’t the goal be to have as many resources as possible so if some don’t work you’ve got more to try? Build a bigger toolbox over time?

This app really incorporates all of the evidence to prevent suicide. Highly recommend and use this often. So easy to use and has all the info you need.

This is a great app that puts a safety plan at a person’s fingertips. I’ve seen safety plans help clients when they are in crisis, yet one of the biggest complaints is that they don’t necessarily have that piece of paper with them….what they do have is their phone! This solves that issue!
  • As a therapist- I love it for teens!

I love this for my teen clients, because they often don’t want to reference a hard paper copy of their safety plan. This ensures they will always have their plan on them on their phones and would be more likely to stick to it. One suggestion for the app would be if there could be an option to “share” your safety plan. This would be helpful to share a child’s plan with their parents so the parents can be on board with safety, or could be helpful for adults who want a spouse or friend or other trusted person to have access to their plan. Otherwise the app is great!!!

Hi, this is a great app. I am a therapist and really think this could be a helpful tool. A major feature missing is an export link that clients can share the safety plan (what they typed in the text boxes) with their therapist, parents or other people they deem apart of the safety plan. Is this possible to add?

This is a great app to have to remind you of stuff when you might not be in the best state of mind to remember it. It only works if you’re honest with yourself and make sure to include and write down all your warning signs and stuff like that. I’ve used this app for years and it’s very helpful. It’d be nice if there was a cloud save/backup feature for when you get a new device.

Great app I’m 13 and dealing with a lot of stuff for 2 years I don’t like talking about my problems to my therapist so I got this app thinking it isn’t going to work so I’m doing this for now also thinking it’s helping
  • Way better than paper!

I have recommended this several times to others & many different mental health professionals. I have received very positive feedback from them. The just plain love it! I had & have outstanding mental health care by the VA. However, a safety plan on a sheet of paper, upon leaving the hospital or in the course of outpatient treatment, is not practical. It’ll get lost, destroyed in the laundry, the dog will eat it, it might be shredded accidentally, or just plain wear out. Most people carry around their cell phone. This app is easy to use, wise to have, has a great layout, & was thoughtfully designed. I recommend you review your plan every 3 months & write down what changes you think your plan needs then review with your psychotherapist before updating it. If you don’t have the energy to devote to updating it (yes, depression can do that), talk it out every 3 months with your psychotherapist (you are worth it, darn it!). I would give this app 10 stars if that were possible.

We need more apps like this. It is so important, but always overlooked. This is a deep thank you to the creators, I wish more people would use apps like this.
