Bad language option and bad learning system. Not a good learning too. Best to review others language apps- better language learning tools.

it’s very hard here to review previous lessons content for memorization. But anyway, I’m kind of disappointed in this language learning gamification model. This app, as well as others like Duolingo, making a habit to open it up (the app) and do a quick lesson only to keep up with your streaks. Maybe you remember some vocabulary but all these kinds of apps sucked with actual learning. All you learn is to open the app everyday…
  • Esperaba fuera inglés Americano pero es británico.

Cuando seleccionas el idioma a aprender antes de contar la app aparece la bandera de EEUU lo que te hace suponer que es ingles americano, eso me motivó a inscribirme, luego que estás usando la aplicación notas que la pronunciación y los audios son británico, eso no es lo que yo esperaba y para mí es un problema porque luego te habla un americano y no entiendes nada ya que suena muy distinto. Yo necesito inglés Americano.

This app is one of the best for learning languages, because it actually gives you context for the phrases unlike Duolingo and gives you speaking practices and listening with native speakers. My two complains are this: it’s expensive, but it makes sense for the quality of the app. And two: it’s really bad at accessing level. I am currently at a Spanish two level, and I wanted to use babble to improve my skills. It had me answer a few questions, using concepts like ir + a + infinitve, and preterite. After I answered them, and I’m pretty sure I got them all right, it placed me in unit 1, where I was learning basic concepts that I learned a long time ago. I tried to retest, but I could not find an option to. This was quite frustrating, since I wanted to be adequately challenged based on my skill level. I have been learning Italian as well for a few months, and I am far from fluent, but I tested for my level as well, and I am fairly sure I got most questions right, but it still placed me in unit 1 lesson 1, learning things like “ciao!” . But I have given up my frustration on this one, since there is still so much I don’t know, but I will no longer be using babble for Spanish, and only for languages I know basically nothing in, since that is clearly what it does best. Fix this please.

  • Motivation Killer

I’ve been using Babbel for a few years now. Although I like the app, the streak feature is buggy. Sometimes it says I’ve done a lesson and I haven’t and often it says I didn’t do a lesson although I did. While it might seem like a minor thing, opening the app and being told you missed a day of lessons (when you didn’t) is a motivation killer. I have a 2129 day streak on Duolingo and although I’ve used Babbel for years, my streak is at 86, but only because for the last few months I’ve contacted Babbel support on a weekly basis to let them know the streak was incorrectly broken. Again, this might seem like a minor issue, but it’s a major motivation killer. I would much rather not have the streak function or at least have the ability to turn it off. 🤷🏻‍♂️
