  • Was good but no longer

This use to be an amazing app and website but with the new updates and changes it is almost useless to me. 95% of what I valued came from outside creators. Now it is in-house only content that I don’t need. You use to be able to learn so much more than just languages here. A sad death to something that was great.
  • Better than Duolingo

Did Duolingo for 5 years and it was good, but this is next level. Real people with videos!! Plus AI feature is very promising. Love it!
  • I hate this new update

It ruined everything, deleted all the progress that I had on a course and the course as well. All the vocabulary lost. Uninstalled the app already.
  • Could be better.....

I paid the one time fee which I enjoy rather than the yearly fee. I wish they would review words and phrases from the beginning and also there should be the option to be able to listen to your vocabulary words/phrases.
  • Soulless robots and AI. Used to be better.

I used to spend hours and hours on Memrise, about a decade ago. I used it again a few years ago to study a language. Now Memrise is all about promoting its AI robots, which either are costing them tons and environmentally damaging, or are oft-used practice convos that aren’t really AI but they’re that terrible at branding it. This alone would be a dealbreaker. The app also lost its user flexibility it once had: people’s learning lists made way for “you must learn these words, in these lessons” and it’s too controlled, locked down, and not fun. Ditch the AI.
  • The good, the bad, and the ugly

Firstly, I bought the lifetime so I’m all in. This is a good app for learning common everyday phrases from actual videos of real people. It also has an excellent new “AI buddies” section for learning grammar, conjugation, etc. That is awesome and I’ll be spending a lot of time there. This new feature is only available for certain languages at the time I am writing this. The bad thing about this app is that it’s hard to go back and relearn the scenarios. The ugly truth is that I don’t want to practice with the AI before I get chance to learn and remember enough words. When I first started using the app it seemed fine and sent me a mixed bag of phrases to learn. Now when I go back to review I have to go through phrases one by one. I can’t seem to tell memrise that I forgot a bunch of them and want to practice and mix them all up. Before memrise I’ve been using and still use the free Duolingo app, which has a logical organization and progression. I can and do go back and review entire sections in that. But memrise keeps trying to push me into an AI interaction when I hardly know the phrases. Unlike Duolingo which has a linear path to navigate, memrise has sections to hop around in. These are fine but I just wish it had an easy linear path like Duolingo that is easy to navigate. Another thing I don’t like in memrise is that during the exercises the correct answer just flashes the translation then moves to the next exercise. I’d like chance to read and hit a “continue” button to move on. Obviously memrise must be a smaller company than Duolingo and wouldn’t have the same resources. Memrise has so much to offer yet needs improvement. Most of my experiences I just mentioned have been related to the Spanish language. Now when I go to the Korean language I can’t seem to set an appropriate level. It’s got me at a very basic level beyond learning the Hangul writing, but I need to go to a bit more advanced. This is a worthwhile app that has a lot to offer. I feel hopeful that it will become more user friendly over time.
  • No pay. no app I guess

I opened today to continue learning but the course I was just on was locked and I can not do anything anymore unless I pay. Good to just switch what was free to paid in the middle of use. Just getting use to the bad new layout and already limited features of the Sept update but now stone walled. Some warning would have been nice. Also the price for the same content for years and every year subscription fee. What happen to the ad version.
  • Worthless without community courses

The decision to remove community courses from the app and eventually from the website is such a disappointment. The community courses were the main draw of Memrise for me and were of much higher quality than the official Memrise courses. What a shame.
  • It is frozen

It turns frozen in the middle of my lessons every 15 mins.
  • Great except freezes at the end of every lesson

App works great until you finish the lesson. It gets to the screen where it shows you how many points you have and then it freezes. No way to get it restarted except to turn your phone on and off.
