So overall I like the app a lot. Pluses: excellent variety of meditations, great/fun cartoon videos on basic concepts (like the monkey mind), 5 breaths meditation for the morning. Minuses: I wish there were more meditations related to handling today’s world situations and less on productivity, and it looks like the “nnn people meditating right now” counter is gone, which I really liked as it made me feel more part of a community. Otherwise, I find it helpful.

It truly helps me get back to baseline when I get down on myself.

Edit 2025: everything is now paywalled. This is so ridiculous that something that has been free is now behind a paywall. Just offer some free sleep casts but all of them? Wow. I’ve had insomnia since high school due to depression and anxiety. I tried falling asleep to music, podcasts, hypnosis tracks, everything. Nothing puts me to sleep faster than Sleepcasts. The combination of noise and voice, along with the wind downs, are perfect for me to fall asleep to. I’ve never made it a full 10 minutes into the casts, which is a miracle for me. I also love that you can turn up more sounds or voice. My only suggestion is this: When going to the sleep menu, everything is in dark tones which is easy on the eyes and great for getting into a sleep mood. However, when you click on your selection, the screen goes white and it’s bright. I would change this to match the rest of the lighting, because this just alerts my eyes and brain again (if that makes sense). I just want to see it dark and purple like the rest of the sleep stuff.

I began 7 years ago with 3 minutes a day. Now I do 15-20 and I’ve racked up a total of 32,000 minutes. Best part of my day

This app has truly become a friend during a very difficult season in my life. It has helped me stay grounded and most importantly it has helped me to become more aware of my own thoughts and to simply observe them instead of judging them. It has helped me learn to be more compassionate and curious and I really am thankful for the support I have received. Thank you Headspace!!

The app used to be great until you can’t unlock anything without paying for it now. It’s tragic these apps nowadays eventually end up here.
  • This app is extremely helpful

As someone who is therapy, I can 100% say that this app is a great resource for somebody who is experiencing any kind of trauma depression in need of help. I recommend this app.

I have bipolar disorder and my days all look and feel drastically different depending on how I wake up. But everytime I do a meditation session on this app, I find myself a little closer to center and grounded. It’s not a fix all solution but it does help substantially.
  • Targeted toward a younger audience

This app is definitely targeted toward people in their 20s and 30s. For example, a recent podcast on “aging“ was about a listener who wrote in about her angst about aging from her 20s to becoming 30. I’m 62. So I totally can’t relate to this!!!! As I look through the topics, it also leans toward a more liberal point of view. Like when they talk about acceptance, it’s about all the variety of people that we have walking the planet of these days. I find the app organization to be pretty confusing, but again it’s probably because of my age and that this is designed for a younger organization. It definitely means more toward 10 part courses on a particular topic, rather than a wide range of singular topics. The sleep music is great, and I will keep it for my one year subscription for that. But for my daily meditation, I’m going back to the Calm app, which seems to be more age-appropriate for me.
