  • ED Sensitive Foodlog

I was recently diagnosed with restrictive ED. The app is incredible in that it centers ones feelings and food habits (the amount of food you eat/at what time) without feeling like I am being punished. It has quotes after you log a meal, and little rewards like music videos once you complete a certain amount of logs. it does feel a little cheesy because the videos are older from the 2010s, so aesthetically it could use an overhaul. but it is not enough to dock a star since the content is so helpful.

Not gonna lie, this needs some TLC on the design part, but the app itself is amazing. It's not only the meal logging, there's also a robust emotion log, auto-tagging meals based on their pictures (it only got my meal wrong once and it was a new recipe so that was no surprise), lots of customizable questions on each log like "did you use marijuana", custom notifications (!!!) when reminding you to log meals (like it could say "Plan NYE dinner" but actually be the breakfast log reminder if you wanted), support for like six meals a day, and there's a pair program thing that sounds pretty cool but I haven't been able to use yet, maybe no one else is trying to get matched. Oh yeah, there's also medication reminders and a scrapbook of inspirational quotes and images! Lots of other things too but my phone isn't that great at juggling apps so I can't switch screens and check. There's this thing where you connect to your clinicians or support group? I don't have either so I don't know how it works, what I do know is that the app is 100% free for us (not for your clinician/group), so really, just download it and test it out. There's also the coping skill part but that's clearly for people who've done therapy because I have no idea how to use it or when.

I’m grateful for an app to work with my dietitian that does not promote disordered eating! It is really helpful, and I am really grateful to God for this journey of learning about food and how God made it all good and it nourishes us. Thank You God! Awesome app, pretty fun to use as well and the reflection tools with each meal are great to make me engage mindfully with what it was like before during and after throughout the day.

Imagine not having to pay for support. Imagine being encouraged to express things in a therapeutic way, without seeing a therapist. I have been to doctors and therapist trying to control some of these behaviour’s for years with no success. I hate even trying at this point. But this app is incredible at providing support right at the tip of your fingers. Just binged? Document it in the app. Feeling like a failure and identified a triggering thought? Document it in the app. Did you avoid a mirror today? Log it in the app. It’s incredible and judgement free.

There’s room for a few tweaks. Will have to use the app more. Hunger/fullness scale?

I love how customizable and considerate all the questions are. All the other free apps I saw were counting calories, and I just needed to cure my mental state. So this is not a diet app, it’s an app for how you view your relationship with food, and how that affects you and your mental health.
