Description

The Unarchiver is a small and easy to use program that can unarchive many different kinds of archive files. It will open common formats such as Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip and Bzip2. It will also open many older formats, such as StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ and ARC. It will even open other kinds of files, like ISO and BIN disc images, some Windows .EXE installers. The list is actually much longer - see the program homepage for the full list. The Unarchiver also tries to detect and correctly handle the filename encoding in the archives it opens, allowing you to open files from every part of the world without getting garbled filenames. The Unarchiver aims to be the only unarchiving program you will ever need, and to stay out of your way. Also, if you need to open archives on your iPad or iPhone, look for "Archives" on the App Store, or go to https://theunarchiver.com/archives. It is based on The Unarchiver, and lets you easily handle Archives on iOS!

Look, if you had given me an option to buy, I would have. But there isn’t Now I have to look at an ad for one of your other apps and manually close the Unarchiver. Guess I’ll be looking for another product where I don’t have to see ads. I’ll probably pay for it too. Sad because I’ve been using it for years.

I’ve used this app for… I dunno, a decade or more. If they started charging tomorrow I’d be happy to throw them a few bucks because this app really has been better than the default zip app. But at some point they decided it was appropriate to start showing ads after I unzip things. Anyway, I’m uninstalling it now. If ads don’t bother you go ahead and use this but otherwise look literally anywhere else.

Why the advertisments now on a Mac OS product?

This has been my sole unzip utility on M Chip Macs since UNRARX didn’t make it across the Intel transition. Now that they’re stuffing ads into the MAIN window, looking for an alternate solution.

I’ve been using The Unarchiver for 13 years now. I’ve always appreciated its simplicity, performance, and the broad set of formats it supports. And then yesterday after opening a zip, The Unarchiver stayed open in order to display a banner ad for some other app until I manually closed it. This is flat out unacceptable, full stop. I will be uninstalling it and likely purchase Keko instead.

You just saved 4 years of my life's work that I thought had got corrupted during data transfer - turns out the files were just big. I cannot thank you guys enough for creating this extremely useful app. Please continue doing the good work you do!
