  • Skipping problem makes this app unusable.

I started using this app back when it cost $3.99 or whatever it was and i’ve sung its praises for a long time. The ease of the queue, the customization, I loved it all. But for a while now, it’s been randomly skipping sections while i listen. I rewind back and it skips again. It does this with all podcasts. I wanted to wait it out, hoping it was a bug that would be fixed, but it’s been so long dealing with this now that I’m forced to go back to the big podcast apps I hate and was trying to escape from in the first place. Would love to see this fixed so I can use it again.

This was the best podcast app to use. Very customizable. However, playback has gotten worse. The app skips a lot and you have to back track a bit to hear what was said. I thought it had to do with playback speed but it still skips and gets garbled at 1x. Very annoying. Does this repeatedly in podcasts.
  • Top notch podcast app

Well designed, works great, and the free version is plenty full-featured for me. Love it!
  • The Podcast App Everyone Should Try

I switched from another app 3 weeks ago and have no regrets. It allows you to customize everything from the podcasts screen to the buttons on the now-playing screen, from the theme to even the app icon (there are a bunch of different icons for free). It has a clean interface, is updated frequently, and takes feature requests via their forum. It supports episode artwork (not just artwork embedded in the audio file, which not all podcasts do, but other players are limited to), transcripts, and chapters. You can also add your own custom files (without one of the paid plans) to listen to in the app (audiobooks, etc.). There are even more cool features you can read about in the description and on their website. Even if you already have a podcast player you use and like, I really encourage you to try Pocket Casts out.
  • Zero support for free users

This app is generally ok but there are little annoyances: - your device does not connect directly to the server podcast metadata, it goes through their servers - this in turn causes your refresh action to have no effect if a new episode is out unless their servers decide to actually refresh the podcast - I would have reported these first to them but surprise there is no easy way to contact them if you're on the free plan. EDIT: "this episode might be corrupted" message is displayed so often on custom private rss server that I am now abandoning the app completely. These episodes PLAY JUST FINE using Apple Podcasts. Their crippled servers also make sure when their business will go down, the app will stop working as well, since the app always needs their servers as an intermediary to your feeds (which is not required, but heh, they sniff everything you listen to)
  • Love the layout but it skips

The interface is great, easy to navigate and lots of options - so much better an Apple Podcasts. BUT it skips way too often
  • NYT subscriber functionality?

This app is hands down the best podcast app UX - will it keep up with the Spotify and Apple functionality required to connect NYT subscribers NYT content without restrictions?
  • Doesn’t Sync or Preserve Your Queue

I really wanted to like this app, but like other podcast apps, it has just enough quirks to be incredibly frustrating or make you have to contort your workflow to get it to work for you. First off, its ability to organize shows into folders or create custom filters is great. Very useful organizational tools. But if you want to create a smart collection of all shows produced by Wondery for example, you can’t unless you manually select the shows yourself. Annoying but a minor issue. If you want to build up a queue of things to listen to, it’s very easy to set that up with their Up Next queue. But if you don’t want that queue to continuously play the episodes, you have to resort to using a sleep timer or forego using the Up Next queue and instead build up your own collection of episodes using a filter. It’s surprising they don’t offer a simple toggle to avoid continuous playback of Up Next episodes. I’ve had to resort to manually updating my Up Next queue before my drive to and from work based on what I’m in the mood for at that time. But a bigger deal if you do end up using the Up Next queue is Pocket Casts will randomly clear the Up Next queue on you for no reason. This has been maddening! It sometimes occurs multiple times a day or multiple times a week. And as a runner, I rely on syncing episodes to my Apple Watch so I can leave my phone at home. But when Pocket Casts chooses to perform its sync is a mystery. On some mornings it’s taken about an hour for me to get episodes to sync which eats into my running schedule. A workaround for this seems to be disabling Bluetooth on your phone and waiting for the sync to occur. This has sometimes helped but it doesn’t always do the trick. From googling around and reading the forums, these issues seem to be pretty common. Doesn’t affect everyone but it affects enough people. Sadly, having tried several podcast apps at this point, no one seems to be able to produce a truly reliable/convenient one yet.
  • Another Day, Another Bug

I’ve been using this app since July and it is literally the buggiest app I’ve ever used. Between sync issues, repeating playback issues, old podcasts being automatically redownloaded again, now auto play stopped working. I wanted to love this app so bad but the amount of bugs are truly mind boggling. All I want from a podcast catcher is a stable experience while I’m working, that’s literally it, and I’ve finally realized that I’m never going to get that with Pocket Casts. Even though I paid for a year subscription I’m just going back to Overcast now, I honestly can’t deal with this app anymore.

Pocket Casts has been my podcast app for years. It was much better than anything else out at the time. I like that they have improved it with folders for organizing. I just wish there were a way to search my listening history. I can review it, but I can’t search for a term to find something I’ve listened to.
