Paid for lifetime app years ago then they switched. Won’t respond to support request. Complete scammers beware.

Like others, I have payed a lot of money for this app, and more money for additions/ changes. Now the expectation is subscription??? Advice to all- Delete the app, go back to your paper field manual. Use “Google Lense,” it works better than “photo sleuth”. ….My purchase history. June 28, 2012- Ibird pro guide to birds $2.99 March 23, 2013- Ibird pro guide to UK $14.99 March 23, 2013- Ibird pro HD $9.99 October 17, 2013- Ibird journal $9.99 (no longer supported). October 17, 2013- waites guide full North America full upgrade $14.99 June 4, 2018 - “everything bundle” $6.99 March 29, 2021 - “photo sleuth” $4.99 -Total payed for $65. …..In hindsight I wish I would have spent this money on more bird books/field guides (average price 10-20 dollars)- with the new subscription fee expect it will only be the tip of the iceberg. I am done supporting Mitch Waite. Update 11 May 2025, visited the App Store and my once favorite app just to check in. I see that you can offer a “lifetime subscription” for $60. After paying the above amounts over the previous years I am still very much upset with your business. Thanks for the rip-off.
  • Uncommunicative developer. Unannounced change to subscription based

Updated: developer finally replied to emails. Their offer of a free subscription is for ONE YEAR, not a full restoration as implied in their responses here. Still no indication what the iBird subscription price is. Only says “download from cloud”. Not getting in that merry-go-round. Already purchased the Sibly App in the time it took developer to respond. Sibly is the acknowledged expert on birds and can still be purchased outright without pesky subscriptions. Sibly seems as good or better so far. Back to guiding bird tours with a new tool to recommend. ——————— Purchased app a few years ago. Just updated app. Did NOT get ANY notification that app has changed to subscription base. Can not restore app to old non subscription base. Emailed developer multiple times: have not received any response. Called Apple Support, was told not Apple’s problem; they are only the middle man. Basically a great app is now totally useless!!!! Write this review and they will not let it post: fraud and dishonest. I would pay for updates if they were actually updating something. There aren’t any new birds, just changing how we look them up. Why pay a monthly fee for stagnant information. Most “updates” have resulted in loosing functionality. UPDATE after developers response here: I have sent multiple emails via the apple app site, the option for app support when I try to open the app and via the website offered by the developers response and I have gotten neither a response (yes, I checked my junk mail folder) nor an offer for any extended use of my app. Not sure why this is a “misleading review”. It’s been two weeks…

I recently took down a highly critical older review, written after the change to the subscription model. I originally spent slightly under $30 from the app including 2 IAP’s. More recently, I took a look at recent reviews and saw mentions of restored accounts. After several emails sent to the listed support email I finally heard back with an offer for 1 year subscription. I have no interest supporting the subscription model given that I purchased this app before the change. I’ve deleted the app and going to take advantage of the free resources from Cornell and respected products from Sibley and Audubon. Take care iBird…
  • Rip off

I spent $39.99 for full iBird Pro several years ago. They made changes and required contact by email to reinstall previous subscriptions. Tried twice. Never heard from them. So don’t be surprised if you have to pay again at some point to continue using what you thought was access for life. There are other good birding apps that don’t rip you off.

I use this app on my iPad. I’d like to know how to save notes. I entered notes several times yesterday and there’s no save option, at least nothing that I could see. Help.

I reached out to the developer multiple times weeks ago to restore a previous purchase but have not heard back. Lost money I spent on this app and would therefore not recommend.

NEGATIVE 5 ⭐️ Shame on me once, fell for the “lifetime” bait and swap when the developer “updated” the app. Apple allowing developers to do this is egregious. Plenty of other bird apps that accomplish the same thing. And books, remember them? You can use a beautiful field guide and distance yourself from this kind of digital smoke and mirrors.
