Description

RadarScope is a specialized display utility for weather enthusiasts and meteorologists that allows you view NEXRAD Level 3 and Level 2 radar data along with tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, special marine and snow squall warnings, and predicted storm tracks issued by the U.S. National Weather Service. It can display the latest reflectivity, velocity, dual-polarization, and other products from any NEXRAD or TDWR radar site in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, Korea, and Okinawa, as well as data from Environment Canada, Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Finnish Meteorological Institute, and German Weather Service radars. These aren't smoothed images, this is native radar data rendered in its original radial format for a high level of detail. Whether you are scanning reflectivity for a mesocyclone's tell-tale hook echo, trying to pinpoint the landfall of a hurricane's eye wall, or looking for small features like velocity couplets in the storm relative radial velocity product, RadarScope gives you the power to view true radial weather radar data. RadarScope displays tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, special marine, and snow squall warnings issued by the U.S. National Weather Service. You can browse the list of active warnings, select a warning to view the details, and even zoom to the selected warning on the map. Pinch or stretch to zoom in and out. Drag your finger around the map to scroll. Tap the radar sweep button in the toolbar to switch radars. Select one of the 289 different radars in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Korea, Puerto Rico, Guam, or Okinawa. Plot your current location by tapping the location button and optionally report it to the Spotter Network. Tap the play button to download and animate over recent images. Display the names of over 25,000 cities and towns on the map as you zoom and scroll. Tap and hold the color legend to see the data values. Meanwhile, RadarScope will retrieve and display updated data automatically and intelligently (approximately every 2 to 10 minutes, depending on the radar scan strategy). You can display radar data from our servers, NOAA's public access web site, or your Allison House subscriber account. Spotter Network members can report their location and view the locations of other spotters. RadarScope Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription with two different tiers to choose from. RadarScope Pro Tier One is an annual subscription that provides access to real-time animated lightning data and up to 30 frames of radar data, including extended loops of super-resolution data. Tier One subscribers can also access a data interrogation tool to quickly determine data values for specific radar pixels and an optional dual-pane mode for viewing two radar products side-by-side. RadarScope Pro Tier Two is an annual or monthly subscription that combines all the features in Tier One with more advanced features, including 50-frame loops, SPC outlooks, special weather statements, mesoscale discussions, local storm reports, hail size and probability contours, and azimuthal shear contours in the U.S., a 30-day archive of all radar products, a 2-year archive of NEXRAD Level 3 radar products, a full historical archive of NEXRAD Level 2 products, and the ability to use subscription features across multiple platforms. If you choose to buy the RadarScope Pro subscription, it will charged to your iTunes account. The subscription will be auto-renewed within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same price you originally paid. Subscriptions may be managed and auto-renewal disabled via your iTunes Account Settings after the purchase. Once purchased, the subscription cannot be cancelled during the active subscription period. Do not trust your safety to this app. Watches and warnings post way late and there is lag between what NWS/NOAA is reporting and what is being displayed. Over the years the developer takes away and to get anything more you pay a big premium. This app is dangerous.

This is the most accurate radar down to the pixel. It is precise every time. There are hundreds of different tools to use and learn about. It is extremely user friendly and completely accurate. I don’t need to watch my local meteorologist because RadarScope has me covered. I know exactly what is going to happen and how it’s going to happen. People always ask me how I’m so good at predicting the weather and the answer is simple every time… RadarScope!

Same great RadarScope app that I have on my iPad and iPhone. It does what you’d expect. Obviously, the pro tier features aren’t for everybody, especially if you only use the radar this on the Mac, get tier 1 at most. I have tier 2 and have for quite some time and I love it. THANK YOU for putting all the other features of tier 2 into the Mac version. I moved from windows and that one didn’t, so I appreciate the app consitency between the different IOS/Mac versions, because then I don’t have to flip between this and the iPad. Best radar app hands down…

Do NOT purchase unless you want to support thieves. Evidently the developers made changes to their once awesome radar app. Sadly, I didn’t look at the reviews before making the purchase, or, I would have noticed all the RECENT one star (the huge red flag) ratings and read the upsetting comments. You can get what this app offers for FREE on many other apps! So SAVE yourself $10 and don’t support thieves ! I wish I wouldn’t have. According to one person, since the developers made changes, they’ve taken away all the great features they once had. Those features are what I thought I was getting when I purchased this app. Oh no! It’s a bait and switch kind of thing! So basically they’re stealing people’s money. The apps rating is dropping very quickly! Right now they have MORE ONE star reviews than they do , 2, 3, & even 4 STAR reviews!!! (That should tell you something!!). Soon they’ll have more one stars than they do five stars. They charged my credit card, yet the app doesn’t even show up under my SUBSCRIPTIONS on my phone!!!! 😡
  • RadarScope is The Outstanding weather app!

I could write an epistle on the values of RadarScope, but my words would still be lacking. We live in Tornado Alley and are extremely cognizant of stormy weather, especially after having survived a tornado’s direct hit on our house. We have tested literally dozens of weather radar apps, and all of them fall short of rendering accurate storm position (among multiple other details) in a timely manner. All of those apps’ radar data is at least five minutes old, which is useless in tornadic weather. RadarScope shows the actual live radar feeds, instantly and without the middleman. This app is the only one that gave us the real indications that a tornado was heading right for us. Another excellent feature is that when the NWS issues Thunderstorm Warnings or Tornado Warnings, those polygons appear in RadarScope as the NWS and SPC issue them. During these long storm-filled nights, we’ve had the local weather on the TV and had RadarScope open, and we’d see the polygon warnings in RadarScope several minutes before the local meteorologists report them, and also several minutes before our tornado sirens begin to sound. Only one feature we’d like to see added, is that storm warning alert notifications could be added to the app. We know that’s not the focus of the app, and definitely not a deal breaker. If you’re wanting hyper-accurate radar data instantly, RadarScope is the app that delivers it. This app is outstanding!

So, I’ve had RadarScope for about 3 years now and have used it so much when storms come in my area and for other things, and I’ve used it to create a map on Google Earth showing cells that may have been a threat to my area and where each cell has been, and I also add data about that cell. I was wondering if you could add a new feature in the info area for each cell showing when it formed.

It's the only one I ever use. The other stuff is either too "busy" (for professional weather forecasters), or it lacks an actual picture showing a storm. This one does! It just depends on what you want. It is like seeing an actual picture of someone trying to enter your property or a pretty picture someone has painted of the bad guys!
  • Cannot view multiple radar images simultaneously...

WHY I BOUGHT THIS APP: I love their privacy protocol, that was the deciding reason I downloaded this app. In that respect this app is far superior to those that constantly harvest oUr perSonAl data. For that reason alone I highly recommend this app if you only need to see one radar at a time. THE APP: I want to love this app, it came highly recommended. It is beautiful. The functions are intuitive and easy to navigate. It has multiple attractively designed screen icons. Unfortunately, you cannot view multiple radar images simultaneously. If you are trying to track a very large storm you must switch back-and-forth between multiple radars — even so, you will never see storms that extend from the Great Lakes to Gulf of Mexico. I need to see the training thunderstorms, long-track tornadoes, and hurricanes approaching before they reach my proverbial doorstep. Beautiful images, but sadly, not worth $10 if I can't see at least two live/active radar images on the screen simultaneously. UPDATE: (I have already been charged for this app; therefore, I am going to play with it for a while and see if there are functions I am missing.) During the storm I didn't try to see a composite radar image for the entire continent. This morning I discovered that option doesn't appear to exist. ...shouldn't have surprised me since you can't see two radars simultaneously. Fingers crossed that I find a way to simultaneously turn on a composite of continental/regional radars. If there is, I will update this review and add Stars as appropriate.
