I was just trying to do the free trial and got charged for the year. This was in September and they still have not returned any of my messages

I like the idea of the app in general, but seriously, a “pay what you think is fair” tab that I cannot close without actually knowing what I’m doing in the app? Like I couldn’t just look through the app to even see if it would actually work for the needs? I think it’s silly as well because while some people are generous and will pay more, there isn’t anything telling me what I’m paying for! I’m not going to agree to pay for something without knowing how it works.
  • Not free!!!

This has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen the app on the App Store listed it for free but that is completely false you have to pay to use the app otherwise your stuck on a screen that says “get started with a free trial” why list the app as free if in order to use the content of the app you have to pay?!?!?!
  • Customer Support is nonexistent; ok concept for new couples/divorced parents

I was influenced to download this app because of the concept of being able to split expenses easier than using payment apps. Upon launching the app, I could not bypass anything without purchasing first. Since I had been promised an app that would make splitting expenses easier I decided spending the $60 was worth it. However, I quickly realized that it is hardly any different from splitting costs through payment apps such as cash app. I like that I can see my own expenses, but I would have to manually add the person I want to split with, designate the amount, and then still use a payment app to split it anyways. The only thing that is interesting that I could maybe use is shared to do lists and wishlists…but I can do that for free in my notes tab in my phone. Overall, this might be good for new couples or divorced parents that prefer to split all costs down to the dime or those who don’t trust each other financially (I.e. instead of saying dinner costed $50 the app has the specific charge down to the dime)…but it won’t be beneficial to me as someone who needs to move large sums back and forth for rent and other expenses. Why my review is so low: Since I have no need for it and haven’t used the service once—I contacted support within several days of my purchase and requested a refund. I never heard anything back. I wasted $60 for absolutely nothing—especially since I’ve never used the function at all. Really disappointed but mostly by the lack of response. Further, the cost of the app is overall just way too high, especially when apps like Rocket Money exist that offer many of the same features for free.

No one responds to help messages. I’ve sent 3 with no responses.
  • Was functional when it was simple

To start off, I don’t really leave reviews, let alone bad ones, but I’m kind of done with it. TLDR - Tandem seemingly has been focusing more on building out their MVP with new bells and whistles (features) but has been somehow neglecting the primary major error of its functioning parts of the app. About a month ago all of my partner’s and my past splits got mixed into our recent splits we were planning to settle. Contacted customer support, they said they’d have it fixed (I sent them screenshots, etc.) and we waited for about 2 weeks with no resolution, we had to manually go through and decline/delete each duplicated transaction since we started using the app. (Even after that no one bothered to follow up.) Recently none of my transactions for the past half month haven’t gone through and it’s really messing up my budgeting because I was relying on Tandem to at the least help with this part of it, now I have to go back to the old way of doing it and manually add the last half month of expenses to settle the current split we have open. I have been messaging Tandem daily for almost a week now and no response still. “Typically responds in a few minutes” is such a lie. Even if these are edge cases, not getting actual help and having them occurring not even that far apart is just becoming not worth it anymore. I’m considering removing my financial accounts from the app and just manually adding my transactions at this point.—Feels like a slight step up from using Excel/Sheets, but at least it would be more reliable and not negatively affect my budgeting.
  • Caused more problems than it solved for us

This app has made my partner and I’s financial journey MORE frustrating than before. First of all, both my partner and I tried emailing the Tandem contact email and got no response, so I wouldn’t rely on that if I were you. Secondly, if someone in your partnership changes their phone number, they have to delete their tandem account and create an entire new one. Thirdly, it’s way too difficult to view the history of your “settle-up’s”, god forbid if you make a mistake and want to resettle. This app is not intuitively set up and gave both my partner and I meltdowns. A financial app **that I’m paying a subscription for** shouldn’t be so badly designed that I have to pop back open a Google spreadsheet, manually copy down all split transactions, and recalculate my split to actually split things correctly after we made a mistake. Get this app if you want to have financial meltdowns more often with your partner
  • Just Don’t

This app was decent at first, but as soon as you need to make simple changes it immediately becomes unusable. Split summaries aren’t saved and past splits aren’t editable, so if you make a mistake or otherwise need to change a past split, you’re stuck doing that math by yourself. God forbid you change your phone number at any point - Tandem will never even pretend to help you. Without your phone number, you’ll have to delete your account, make a new account, have your partner delete your presence in their account, have your partner AND send a new invite just to lose prior data anyway. All because tandem won’t let you change your number in app!! If you try to contact customer service like I did, good luck. They say they’ll message you back and send their response via email, but I never heard anything from them. It’s been weeks at this point. TL:DR save yourself the trouble and use one of the many other apps on the market. Maybe you can even find one with actual customer support!
  • Game changer

This app is a game changer for couples managing finances. We switched from Honeydue and this app is a breath of fresh air in comparison - it just works. One huge piece of feedback - we currently have to do some magical things when we settle up. Since there's a pretty large balance in the app, sometimes we'd like to settle up only a certain amount (i.e. $100) rather than the full balance. We currently have to do this by going through all of the charges and manually choosing a combination that results in approximately the desired amount. Would be amazing to be able to enter a fixed amount to settle up like in Honeydue! No other complaints :)
  • Terrible customer service

I recently downloaded the app with my girlfriend and we’ve had issues trying to get her signed up and our accounts merged. I’ve messaged “Dan” from customer support and he’s only responded once about 3 weeks ago.
