SkySafari makes stargazing a simple pleasure. It has the largest database of any astronomy app, includes every comet, asteroid, satellite & solar system object ever discovered, offers unparalleled accuracy, advanced planning and logging tools, flawless telescope control, and provides the very best experience under the stars when you depend on it. Don’t postpone joy. Discover why SkySafari is the #1 recommended astronomy app for serious amateur astronomers since 2009. Here's what’s new in version 7: + Complete support for iOS 18 and iPhone 16. Version 7 brings a new and immersive stargazing experience. + Events Finder - go to the new Events section to unlock a powerful search engine that finds astronomical events visible tonight and far into the future. The finder dynamically generates a listing of moon phases, eclipses, planetary moon events, meteor showers and planetary phenomenon such as conjunctions, elongations and oppositions. + Notifications - the notifications section has been completely revamped to allow you to customize and manage which events trigger an alert notification on your device. + Telescope Support - telescope control is at the heart of SkySafari. Version 7 takes a giant leap forward by supporting ASCOM Alpaca, INDI & StarSense Explorer. These next generation control protocols allow you to effortlessly connect to hundreds of compatible astronomical devices. SkySafari 7 brings social stargazing to mobile devices with two new features to help you connect with other like minded people. OneSky - allows you to see what other users are observing, in real time. This feature highlights objects in the sky chart and indicates with a number how many users are observing a particular object. SkyCast - allows you to guide a friend or group around the night sky through their own copy of SkySafari. After initiating SkyCast, you can generate a link and conveniently share it with other SkySafari users via text message, apps or social media accounts. + Sky Tonight - jump to the new Tonight section to see what’s visible in your sky tonight. Expanded information has been designed to help plan your night and includes Moon & Sun info, calendar curations, events and the best positioned deep sky and solar system objects. + Improved Observation Tools - SkySafari is the perfect tool to help you plan, record and organize your observations. New workflows make it easier to add, search, filter and sort data. + Home Screen and Lock Screen Widgets keep your favorite astro information at your fingertips. The Small Touches: + You can now edit the Jupiter GRS Longitude Value in the Settings. + Better Moon Age calculation. + New grid & reference options allow you to display Solstice and Equinox markers, Orbit + Node markers for all solar system objects, and tick marks and labels for the Ecliptic, Meridian, and Equator reference lines. + Previous In-app Purchases are Now Free - this includes the H-R diagram, 3D Galaxy view, and the PGC galaxy and GAIA star catalogs. Enjoy. + Many more. If you haven't used SkySafari 7 Pro before, here's what you can do with it: + Hold your device up, and SkySafari 7 Pro will find stars, constellations, planets, and more! + Simulate the night sky up to 5MM years in the past or future! Animate meteor showers, conjunctions, eclipses, and other celestial events. + Control your telescope, log and plan your observations. + Optionally backup all of your observing data in our secure cloud storage and make it easily accessible to multiple devices as well as from our new web interface, LiveSky.com. + Augmented Reality (AR) mode + Night Vision. + Orbit Mode. • Constantly Crashes after 3-5 seconds

30 September 2024: This app use to be my goto; but, now all it does is constantly crash when trying to use it after showing the sky map for 3 to 5 seconds. I can’t do a darned thing with it on my iPad Pro 12.9” Gen 5 with iPadOS 17.7 as well as on an iPad Pro 12.9” Gen 3 with iPadOS 18.1 Beta. It is a huge disappointment ESPECIALLY when I am spending $29.99 / year in subscription cost. I suggest you fix this immediately. Until then, I will not recommend this app to anyone. 14 December 2024: Developer sent email via App Store stating that the crashing issue has been resolved as of Wed 11 Dec 2024; however, the Community notes still says the fix is planned and the App STILL CRASHES if WiFi is still turned on.
  • All around pretty great!

Sky Safari Pro does lots of good things. The only issue I have is the somewhat cumbersome method for communicating with Simulation Cirriculum, the producers and maintainers of Sky Safari. You can’t talk to them directly, on.y through the user groups. I find this less than satisfactory. However I have had no issues with Sky Safari operation, only a few data base errors. I do highly recommend Sky Safari for its many good points.

After some recent bugs fixed, it seems to work better now.
  • App crashes upon opening

Edit: updating to 5 stars as I have no need to use livesky account. I’ve been using this app for about a year now and I think it’s absolutely amazing and love all the info it gives me about various celestial objects. I use it to plan ahead to observe events like Saturn being very close to the moon or Jupiter. It’s my most used featured. Great job on this app everyone. The app worked fine before I linked my livesky account. After signing up for it I am unable to even open the app. It closes immediately after opening it. It’s a shame because I like what this app offers but it is currently rendered useless. I restated my phone but still the app crashes upon opening it. I guess I’ll have to reinstall it and not sign in with my livesky account. I am willing to work with the devs and provide logs if possible so they can fix this bug. Then I will change this review to a 5 star as it would be deserving.

I tried to purchase at $14.99 for one year and site still wanted $29.99 for the year.
  • I my opinion, version 6 was better

If I knew a few annoying things of version 7, I would have not updated. For example, I cannot get rid of a reminder to activate notifications every time I open the application. Also, the user interface has gone backwards instead of improving.

SkySafari 7 Pro is a workable addition to the SkySafari family of apps. After re-booting my iPhone and deleting SkySafari 6 Pro, I was forced to finally upgrade as it is no longer offered. SkySafari 7 Pro comes complete with all the add-ons I had purchased before. When I finally discovered how to change the toolbar, I was happy. The theme of SkySafari 7 Pro is connectivity and storage. As if we were short on social media. Not. I have rendered those aspects of the toolbar, “NEVER.” Also, the H-R diagram here is a little wacky. I turn it on, and re-size it for a corner. If I touch it again, it disappears! Even when “on”. I have to download the app from scratch to retrieve the H-R diagram. Where does it go? All in all, it is still the best view of the sky in apps.
  • Asks NON-STOP for permission to send notifications!

This is a great app that has inexplicably gone downhill: EVERY time I open it, it informs me that in iOS settings, I have failed to give it permission to send me notifications that I’ve told it DOZENS OF TIMES that I don’t want!!! Even in the past, it allowed me to click on DON’T #@*&%*! ask me again - and then it asked anyway. Duh. I’m smart enough to know I turned these settings off. Please be smart enough to STOP PESTERING ME!!! Then you’ll go back to 5 stars.

I foolishly upgraded to “Pro” version only to find incessant nagging to upgrade to “Premium”.
