I wish I didn’t have to subscribe to see spots.. I do like the new polished version but the cost is what gets me.

This is not user friendly and very confusing. Too complicated. The old version is better.
  • Original was better

New app has too much going on. The original app was a 1000 times better. I used to love this app. But less is more. And they went with more is less

Dang. I really want to like this, but it’s just so bloody clumsy. This is in fact the second time I’ve tried to give it a go, hoping that the quality/usability had improved. But I’m immediately asked to download data, and when I try to, I’m immediately told that I need to subscribe in order to have a semblance of the functionality I want. Even more irritating is that when I use the original app, it keeps trying to get me to upgrade. And they’ve set it up so that the “maybe later“ upgrade button has to be pressed multiple times before it acknowledges my choice. I dunno it just seems petty.

The personal reviews are spectacular when traveling through unknown areas. A reliable, easy to use guide.
  • Original actually worked

They took something that worked fine, and made it complicated and less useful. The new app uses more data and requires you to download vast swaths of information hundreds of miles from where you actually care about. Given that the app is used by a community sensitive to data and connectivity, that seems a poor choice. And then you’re limited on how many maps you can download. If you’re planning a cross country trip, that makes the app useless. Paying the $60 a year fee just gives you access to three maps - still not enough. None of the new features are appealing, the changes seem to be mostly about making more money. There are better ways to do that.
  • Boondocking spot right off the 5

An amazing free camping spot just off the I five down by the lake. Plenty of campsite and a flat parking area. If you are camping in a van, there is a train that goes overhead a couple of times during the night but honestly, I found the sound to be quite magical. Don’t be no registrations during the off-season. If for some reason it’s full, or if train noise is in your thing, there are several pull-ups on the road leading up to the spot as well. I had 5G on T Mobile.

The original version was so much better. The new version won’t update check-ins for other travelers reviews. One spot was marked as closed, but never updated of the new version. I had to go back to the old version to see the updates... Not sure why the app was changed to begin with? If it’s not broke don’t fix it.. The pop ads make the app look cheap as well. Time to move on.

To go from a free app built off of user generated content, to yet another subscription service that people didn’t ask for is horrendous. If this were an app that you pay once for I may be more interested, but I can’t get behind another expensive subscription. Saying “the app is completely useable in the free version” to all the people with valid criticism about the pricing model is so disingenuous! Wooden toilet paper is completely usable, doesn’t mean I’m not gonna get a couple splinters. I’m sure a sure fire way that would turn a lot of negative reviews positive would be to allow users in the US to download the whole country! Or at least regions like the mountain west, Midwest, New England, etc. people using this app aren’t staying in one state for very long and it’s such a hassle to delete the downloaded map for whatever state you were just in and then download the new map for the new state.
