Monarch has been the money manager app I’ve been using for the previous 4 months and it has proven to be an excellent tool for tracking day to day spending, creating & maintaining budgets, monitoring investments (all types including securities, real estate, crypto and alternatives) and most importantly keeping the information available for personal and business record keeping, accounting and tax preparation. Overall I am quite pleased with what they’ve created and the improvements they continue to add. Like many people who keep track of their finances on their phone, when Mint ceased operations I was left scrambling for an alternative. I tried several different money management apps prior to Monarch, but thus far it has proven to be the best for the money. I have one other tool I plan to try but unless it blows Monarch out of the water I cant imagine Monarch losing its place as my finance and money management app of choice. My experience with Monarch has been mostly terrific, but there are a few negatives I will mention and hopefully they will work to improve them. First I hope and pray they can integrate payment of bills directly from inside the app. I realize this is not an easy thing to do and would likely involve partnering with a payment processing service and would probably require an increase in the cost of use, but unless the additional cost would be significantly higher it’s a service worth pursuing. After all a one stop shop for doing all financial activity is the ultimate goal! Second, they need to add AI integration to more easily categorize debits and credits and accurately place both. I know other apps are doing this and if done well it’s a huge time saver and improves productivity. Lastly, like every money management app, increasing the number of participating 3rd party banks and investment companies must continue. Monarch does have an impressive number of bank and investment connections but they still have work to do. In conclusion I have given Monarch 5 stars but I think 4.75 is more fitting. Hopefully they will get to 5, they are on the cusp of something truly special and I’m definitely rooting for them!
  • Concerning

My initial impression of this app was that it was amazing, but I’ve encountered several issues that significantly impact usability. It imports some transactions incorrectly, leading to inaccurate financial records, and sometimes fails to import certain charges altogether, which makes tracking expenses unreliable. Account connections constantly have connection issues. Additionally, some categories are missing from the budget section on the mobile app.
  • Good…almost great.

I’ve been using the app for a little over a month and overall I think it’s really good. It’s close to being great. But no matter how much I enjoy any part of the app I won’t be able to say it’s great or give it 4 or even 5 start until they FIX THE NOTIFICATION BADGE!!! It is so freaking annoying that I have a little “5” badge on my app, telling me I have alerts I need to look at, so I go into the app and deal with the alert items and mark them all clear ONLY FOR THE “5” TO STILL STAY ON THE APP BADGE!!!! No matter how many times you go back into the app and verify you have cleared all notifications, the badge notifications remain. Every other app out there has this figured out so it can’t be that hard. It makes me worry that I shouldn’t be trusting you with all my account data if you can’t get this simple little thing right.
  • STOP FORCING UPDATES

To the developers who keep forcing everyone to update whenever we login: stop it. Please. I don’t have good enough data to download your app every single time you force an update. Please, for the love of Pete, allow us to continue to use the app and don’t lock us completely out until we update.

Income, investments and budgets - all in one place. It takes a little bit to set it all up but once you do it, you can easily spot where the money is leaking and how your savings grow etc. Have used a few other apps but this one definitely leads from the front.
  • No ability to add Property Assets

Monarch Money offers a sleek interface and effectively aggregates accounts, providing a clear overview of your finances. However, several issues hinder its overall utility: Inability to Add Property Assets: The app lacks the functionality to include properties as assets, a significant omission for users aiming to track their complete net worth. Connectivity Issues: There are frequent disconnections with certain bank accounts, leading to duplicated transactions and inaccuracies in budgeting. Limited Bill Tracking Features: The absence of a robust bill and subscription tracking system makes it challenging to manage recurring expenses effectively. However, for $99/year, I expected more features that would help it stand out from other personal finance apps. A major drawback is the inability to add properties as assets, which makes it less useful for tracking total net worth. Additionally, the app struggles with occasional connectivity issues, leading to duplicate transactions or disconnections from bank accounts. The lack of robust bill tracking or subscription management is another limitation, especially when other apps at a similar price point offer these features. While Monarch has potential, it doesn’t currently justify the cost compared to other options on the market. For now, it feels like a good app that’s missing some key tools to make it exceptional.
  • Take it from an obsessive expense and income tracker …

We moved to monarch after years of using Personal Capital to track income and expenses across many cards, banks and investment accounts. The wins came quickly as we got the merchants and rules setup - and I enjoyed tuning and tweaking them over the past year to a highly effective set. With the addition this year of investment events, UX improvements and by far the most clever recurring transactions engine Ive used, Monarch has become a constant companion. Now that we’re a year in we’re able to zoom out to smoother trends and graphs that provide tangible insight to our in and out flows. There’ve been a few connection hiccups. ADP was a huge pain in the rear for tracking a 401k. The migration from CSV import to local sync on Apple Card wasn’t ideal. But overall Ive been extremely happy with how the tool is evolving and I’m looking forward to watching it continue to grow.
  • Design update FAIL

I was LOVING this app, honestly saving money and gaining insight due to its fun to use UI and clear layout. The design update is clunky and totally unnecessary. It’s also missing information. Maybe this is a bug? So weird that they took features away … sigh.
  • The new design is worse

I don’t prefer the aesthetics of the update, but I really don’t like that the entire budget bar reflects your current status (an entire red or green bar in the middle of the month) instead of filling partially to show your progress through the month (eg. a red bar that reaches 3/4 of the length of the bar to show you’re over but still have money left for the month.)
