But, the app can function better. Updates are too often and does not function well…
  • Bad Update

The now forced update is far worse than the previous one. Downloading articles to play in and car is harder to do and far less intuitive. Before you could scan and easily download the articles interesting to you from the weekly homepage. Once downloaded, it was clear what article you were on and what was upcoming. Now weekly, podcasts and videos are splattered in the same place randomly placed like a Jackson Pollock minus any artistic integrity. Now if listening in the car you have no idea where in the weekly you are or what is next. Terrible terrible update.
  • Bring back the legacy app!

Love that the latest version of the new app allows a *limited* number of stories to be added to the audio queue, but the UI affordances are still not as good as the legacy app.
  • Bad App Experience

Updated March 27: This app continues to be absolutely awful and distracts from the content. Hard to know if it’s spinning for an ad or content. Legacy app was perfect, not sure why we had to move. Consider a new pricing tier that includes access to the legacy app please. Older review: Seeing the continued pleas to stop using the legacy iOS app, it is disingenuous to claim that the new version is better. If you’re going to force us to transition to the inferior app, please include settings that allow us to mimic the legacy app (i.e., one download of the weekly edition, no streaming, no links, no updates - just a digital replication of the weekly print edition). Will seriously consider whether to keep my subscription if forced off the legacy app without a workable solution in place.
  • Doesn't work on pre ios-16

As a print & digital subscriber I'm disappointed. this update renders app useless on older phones. (Yup, I'd love a new phone. Can't though)
  • Information Bombardment

Legacy app vastly more simple to negotiate. This one has so many "options" it’s become utter rubbish.
  • Great content—why can’t we bookmark it?

Quality content. The “Bookmark” feature is useless. I wish to save articles to go back to them in the future. The app gives the illusion of this being possible, even encouraging the behaviour—the “Saved” tab appears prominently. In practice, saved articles disappear from the list. Very frustrating!
  • So much worse than the classic app

So disappointed that they’ve shut down the old “classic” app which just concentrated on the magazine. Here it is difficult to get the audio of sections and remove articles from listening list. Layout truly ghastly. It wants to be a news reader serving up the latest pod cast and article instead of a magazine reader which is what is required. Content still great obviously.
  • Amazing content, missing audio history

The app content lives up to this institution’s reputation. Would love to consult my audio playback history and go back to previous articles. Extra bonus if that history could sync across my devices using the same account.
  • Excellent but takes up storage on iPhone

The Economist’s content and writing are as good as anything out these. I have been a subscriber to print and now digital for more than 30 years. The only flaw in this app is that it seems to eat up a lot of storage (multiple GB) after using it for a while. I assume it is holding on to downloaded articles I have read. The only way to free up the space seems to be to delete and reinstall the app. A better way to manage old downloads would be helpful.
