  • Horrible & painful “focus” sound

    I don’t know how anyone has rated this app with anything but one star. I’m neurodivergent on multiple levels so maybe my ears are just more sensitive, but the “focus” sound in the background was physically painful to my ears, even at a low volume. This app has great reviews and I truly don’t know how. The sound was piercing - maybe if the speed at which it oscillates went down by at least 500% it wouldn’t bother me. But it felt like someone was driving an icepick into my eardrums.

    For example, I was feeling tired from a night of waking up constantly. I put my headphones on, selected focus, and started making breakfast for my son. With the timer going for visual aid, I turned a mundane task into something that only took minutes. Then cleaned dirty dishes and organized my fridge. Once I was done the timer said 59 minutes. Before I would have dragged it out to hours. This is a great new tool discovered on a Justin Sung YouTube video to study with him.

    I honestly still don’t know how “real” the science of it is. All I know is that I like the music and I find that it really works. I use almost all of the settings and I find that they really do aid and benefit whatever task I am trying to accomplish whether it’s creative writing, meditating, calming down for bedtime, or my personal favorite “light work” for those mindless, tedious administrative tasks that can be so boring. I am very easily distracted and for whatever reason when I have Brain FM going, I stay locked in to whatever task I set out to do. The timers are also super helpful. I can’t wait for them to add more songs and genres.

  • Helpful sometimes but not worth the cost

    I used this app mostly at night to see if it would help me sleep through the night better. I wouldn’t say it helped with that any better than anything else I’ve tried. I still woke up at the same time I always do and couldn’t go back to sleep, even with the “assistance “ of the app. I do think the focus playlists are helpful, the times I tried them seemed to work. But I can only use it when nobody else is around because it just contributes to the overstimulating noise pollution if anything else is happening around me. Definitely not worth the monthly cost. Maybe if it was a one time fee or a lower monthly price.

    They cant seem to afford to add a specific minute button. I want to sleep for 7.5 hours but i only have the option to do full hours and no specific amount of minutes within that hour. So i have to resort to only 7 hours… which isnt what my body likes to sleep to.

    Great way to focus on your tasks while you listen to some music playing in the background. This reminds me of when i was school the teacher use to play classical music to help us focus. This app is the upgraded version.

  • Disappointing nonsense

    I have enjoyed MindPump for many years. When they recommend something, I’ll look into it and check it out. They had high praise for this app. I specifically wanted to try it for sleep as I’ve had issues for years off and on. On multiple occasions I tried the deep sleep option during the 2 wk trial. I have come to the conclusion that this app is complete nonsense. At the least, it didn’t work for me at all. My advise: don’t waste your time and certainly not your money.
