This guide was so worth it for us! I read a lot about the road to Hana and had notes from friends but felt so overwhelmed planning it. This was so nice because it had so many details. Downloading the map before our road trip made it accessible the whole journey which was crucial since there was hardly any service on the drive. We loved the audio and loved that it mixed in Hawaiian music here and there with the info. Our family kept saying we don’t know how people do this without Shaka! Thank you!!

This app was so amazing to use for our trip to Road to Hana. We learnt a lot about Hawaiian culture and niche hidden spots on our way to Hana. The app felt personalised and it’s such a novel idea. Would 100% recommend.

  • Hana Full Loop

The full loop Road to Hana is one of the best things we’ve ever done on any vacation. And the Shaka App is an absolute must. Entertaining, informative, great stories, nice Hawaiian music playing between waypoints. I cannot say enough good things about this app. It is just phenomenal. Also, don’t let anyone scare you out of doing the full loop. If you have a jeep or 4WD vehicle, are patient and courteous to local drivers, and just respect local requests (no parking, no trespassing, etc) it is not a bad drive, and by skipping it you will miss out on some truly breathtaking places in Maui. Thanks you to the team at Shaka app for taking a great experience way way over the top.

I wouldn't have wanted to take the Road to Hana without this app. Not only did it enrich the experience with fun facts, interesting stories, and history lessons, it helped us know how to be respectful to locals and even where to stop for a restroom break. The narrator was outstanding and the music which I expected to be annoying was actually relaxing and an enjoyable addition to our drive. 10/10 recommend!

A great way to do a self guided tour of Maui. Made excellent recommendations about things to do and see. The fact that it connects via gps and can give turn by turn directions was really helpful. Fun to hear some stories on the return trips- a little cheesy sometimes but definitely entertaining.

We went on the Road to Hana in early March 2025. I got this app the day before and we just loved it! The narrator has a great voice that keeps your attention, but doesn’t cause you to get drowsy. The information is a variety of practical info, modern stories, and history. The music in between is suited to the area, and not obnoxious to listen to. A very well made app. It was so useful to have the guide tell us about upcoming stops and why we might be interested, but also what the next possible stops will be so we could make our choices. Most of the historical information was saved for the road back, which was interesting and helped pass the time.

I usually don’t write reviews but this app was soooo great and informative. This was my second time driving road to Hana and this time around I was able to appreciate the history of it (thanks to the app), the stops to skip, and the hidden gems we would have missed we would have done this drive on our own.
