  • Too important to fail

Sometimes apps are so consistent and so good that I trust them with the most personal parts of my life. I get nervous with the mass of personal items I trust to gmail. Another invaluable history of my life is now recorded on the cloud with DayOne. I’ve been a user for nearly 10 years. I keep a journal for me, my wife, each of my children, my garden, my professional life and although sporadically and trivially, the food I eat. I’m super happy that the developers of DayOne have dedicated a portion of their lives to making what they did. Thanks

The new layout is absurd, but i can live with that. Ive used this since 2015 and today i have a sync error and need to enter my ‘encryption key’ WHAT???? So i looked through help and roughly speaking… sorry if you don’t have it there is ‘nothing Day One can do’ okay day one, im sire you’ll say its my fault for not ‘writing down ‘ some dumb A key from 8 years ago. It is my fault for trusting you. The worst paid app experience i ever had. Thanks for wasting entries ive had for 8 years. I have no idea whats going on at Day One with the UI changes, but trust me on this. Use “the free IOS journal. Update- appreciate the response. All i can say is that for years, without any changes on my part, the roughly 5 separate journals I had appeared every time with no issue. I never had an error pop up since 2015. Now an error that required my encryption key out of nowhere. Years of information/pics gone. So yep, i knew your response was its my fault for not keeping an encryption key that for some dumb reason in my part I opted into. I agree. Dumb dumb idea on my part. No sarcasm. I didn’t have one journal that from some reason i didn’t encrypt. I get the encryption, but hust maybe havr a way yo reset it? If i did something last month that caused this encryption key requirement- id understand more. I did nothing on my end that caused you to suddenly require an encryption key thsts on you. So are you saying that the journals that are gone, you can get back? Or is your response a cut and paste contact us? Why would you to tell me in help there is nothing you can do and then ask me to reach out?

Great product. But. I’ve been trying to update my app for a few days now. Unfortunately no luck. It’s just spinning. Maybe something on my end but if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Seamless connections between phone, iPad, laptop, even my watch. Easy to add photos and tags. I have been using this app for >10 years and it is still great.

After using Day One for years I finally decided to make some physical family histories and I wanted to do so in programs where I could control the layout a little better than the Day One book printing feature. so I went to export only to discover that there isn’t a single export option that will organize attached media in folders or file names related to its associated text entry. That’s right- the only way to get your photos, videos, and audio out of Day One is using a JSON export that renames all media a long, randomly generated name and puts all that media in a single folder which you then have to manually search, rename, and organize. Thus, if I wanted to put my content into Pages, Word, InDesign or other publication software—I’d have to one by one search through a JSON file to reconnect the media to the text of the entry it is associated with and then of course rename it with the appropriate date and time and put it in a folder that makes sense to a normal human making a normal family history with a normal file browser. When I contacted a friend who happened to also be a lead on the Automatic dev team for Day One, he just simply said that I had an “interesting use case”— I guess making a family history book NOT using the built-in book purchasing that is a mobile-only feature and a real pain to use is an “interesting use case”... for an app literally made to make writing books easier. Anyway… I cancelled right away as it was clear they don’t want you to be able to get your content out of Day One in a way that would make self publishing or reformatting easy. I encourage everyone to push for more export options or else you too may find yourself in a non-JSON needing use case and then have hundreds of hours of work ahead of you just to get your content out of the day one system and into a basic file structure organized by date, entry, and media attachments. Good bye day one. I wish I could say it’s been nice but honestly it’s just been a mess. If you want to do the above work for me I have about 2000 entries I need you to export from your system in a way where the media is connected to or somehow organized with the entry and readable by a human. Thank you! 🙏

I have used this app for many years now. I am a Premium user and LOVE how user friendly and intuitive things are with this app. I love being able to save text, photos, video, and even audio. The new Shared Journals are a wonderful addition to the platform. Most of all, I love that the Day One team is constantly improving the app to make it even better for their users.

One of my favorite features is that each day you can review what you did in years past. Overall a great program. Unfortunately, I can no longer give them 5 stars. Today I reported a major problem to Day One. It no longer shows many of my recent entries all though ì think thew are still there but hidden. According to them, they only help those that have Premium service. I purchased this when it was a time frame when I was supposed to have support forever. Amazing how time changes a company. Update - I figured out the problem with the Day One app. The recent update caused most of the June and July entries to move from the one place to another place. DayOne could care less that they caused the problem and refused to help or fix the problem. Update 10/11/24 - Entries no longer synch to my itouch

I have been journaling, by hand, for over a decade. Now, I have the ability to find valuable passages, instantly, by looking up a word, date, location in the search bar. Also, perhaps one day, I would like to make a book out of my journey through life, which Day One offers the option to make it happen. I absolutely love this app, and use it at least once a day.
