  • Best for discovering new classical

We are big fans of the app. Our favorite features are all of the playlists, especially those created by famous classical artists; they are great for discovering new pieces, as well as wonderful performances of pieces we already knew. While there are other classical music apps that have better search engines, we found this one to have the greatest depth in terms of the number of performances.

I have subscribed to IDAGIO for several years. It integrates with my Sonos system, but also works well when I travel. There are always many different recordings of most pieces, and the curated collections are very good. I try to never miss each week’s “New Releases” collection. I highly recommend.

THANK YOU IDAGIO! You have made it possible for me to enjoy and study Bach, Mozart and others these past few years - easy to use and great sound quality along the way! Thank you so much!
  • Fails to compete with Apple Classical and Roon

By Why So Many Bad Apps?
Idagio is no longer competitive. I subscribed for the trial period and then cancelled. There are better options, for three reasons. (1) Both Apple Music Classical and Roon (Qobuz and Tidal) offer true high resolution music, at 24/96 and even 24/192. If you have a high end audio system, there is a clear difference in quality between those high resolution services and Idagio, which only offers CD quality at 16/44. (2) Roon provides outstanding descriptions of the composers, artists, and music. The descriptions in Apple Classical are not of the same caliber and some are very abbreviated compared to Roon — but at least they provide something. Idagio offers absolutely nothing by comparison — nothing at all. They have a “background” tab, but if you click on it, it is empty. This is a fatal flaw in Idagio. If you want to learn something about the composer, artist or album, you need to read it on Roon or Apple Music and then listen on Idagio. Why bother? Why not just use one source that provides all of these features? (3) Idagio has too many technical problems. To name just one, they offer lectures on Bach by Schiff, but even if you pay for it, you will get an error message that it is a private video. Many of their videos are very old and poor quality. Apple Classical offers a search mechanism and catalog that can compete with Idagio, and it is free for anyone who pays for Apple Music or the Apple package. Most audiophiles already pay for Roon. Idagio simply doesn’t offer anything that is an improvement on the other two services to justify paying for it.
  • Really need to show album art instead of composer portrait.

Currently the album art is displayed only when playing directly from an album. When playing from a recording or a work, the composer portrait is displayed instead, making it difficult to quickly identify which performers I’m listening to and just looks plain ugly. Not being able to quickly identify the performer currently being played beats the purpose of having such a great search and filtering functionally.

The search is very poorly implemented in Idagio.

If I kept only one subscription on my iPad it would be IDAGIO. I wouldn’t want to be without it!
