  • Hard to Maintain - Switching to Simplifi

There’s a lot to love about YNAB. The zero-based budgeting approach is the best option for most people, and YNAB have put together a huge number of helpful video content to help with personal finance. The category target types are intuitive and perfect for managing fluctuating expenses. The UI is well thought out and it has a much more practical approach to using and tracking credit cards than EveryDollar. We just can’t keep up with it. Because YNAB won’t let you budget with pending transactions, you need to wait 2-3 days for the posted amount to appear. For a couple managing the same frequently used budget categories, this means manual entry after each transaction is mandatory. We could manage this at first, but we found it was easy to forget, miscommunicate, and overspend. Because reconciliation in YNAB is also confusing, after 6 months, YNAB doesn’t reflect our real world accounts we just can’t trust our budget anymore. We’ve been using both Quicken Simplifi and YNAB for the last month, and because we can categorize and budget our pending transactions in Simplifi, it’s far easier to stay on top of our spending. While it’s not nearly as good as YNAB for those savings goals, it’s much more practical for us for staying on top of our finances.
  • Not worth it anymore

I use to love this app. After so many years I’m done. It’s just a cluttered mess. Everything is complicated. Moving money has all these buttons. It makes no sense. If you get an error it’s so complicated to solve. An app should make your life simple not more complicated. Every update brings more features that I don’t care about. All I want is budget. Nothing more. A simple to use budget. I’m paying more for crap. I don’t want to have to watch a how too video every time you do an update. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the app? Snazzier? Yea, that’s the word! NOT! If other users want all this crap, create a new app for them, but why do you penalize long time users?
  • Useless Features

I would much rather have better cash-flow forecasting than the ability use a slider instead of typing to move money between categories. Also, almost all of my accounts have been delayed for over 5 days, and there is no option to refresh/reset the connection. This was not happening when I started using the app in January.
  • Best budget system I have found

It allows automatic sync with all my different bank accounts, and helps you to track the ones you don’t want to sync. This is very useful because every two weeks I receive my payment and wasn’t sure how much of it was available or if I need to save a little bit for Christmas gifts or the insurance of the car. Now, I know what I have available and I’m on top of my expenses. It makes you feel that you are in control of your finances.
  • We all hate the new updates

There are a whole list of reviews saying we hate the new updates, especially moving money. Have tried to get used to it but it continues to be more cumbersome than the old way. It’s fine to try something and miss the mark, but the fact that many of us have voiced frustration and it’s not being listened to is even more frustrating…
  • ESSENTIAL!

This app has literally changed my life! There are no other words to include. You just budget and you must budget with YNAB!
  • New move functionality is trash

I love YNAB but what the heck happened to moving money. I’ve been fine with some of the unnecessary-feeling updates recently, but this has totally turned a very simple process into an EXTREMELY complicated one. I have no idea what the arrows mean, or the dollar amount means. I just need to move $xx from one category to another.
  • Usability falling off a cliff

Huge fan of YNAB. Just canceled annual subscription due to product direction. Adding features that diminish usability and make the product harder to use.
  • New update is horrific

No one should use this app until they fix the way we fund the envelopes or move money! I absolutely hate using this since their new horrific update. Hopefully they do the right thing or I’m cancelling and finding another option. Absolute trash currently.
  • Won’t renew

I used to really love this app but it’s changed. There’s now a several day (or more) delay between when transactions appear in the app. This makes it kind of useless at knowing how much has been spent and adjusting the budgets. I won’t be renewing my subscription.
